Reading Skills

The board read {6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Jon Aguiar check-called his opponents bet of 7,500.

The {2-Clubs} hit the turn, and again Aguiar checked. His opponent moved all in for 11,600.

"Show if I fold," asked Aguiar. His opponent said yes, and Aguiar tossed his cards in the muck.

"At least I made a good read for the first time - I had nines," said Aguiar after his opponent tabled pocket kings.

Going for Gold

Jamie Gold opened for 2,000 in late position and then called the shove for 5,300 total from the gentleman on the button.

Gold: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Button Gentleman: {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

Board: {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{a-Spades}

With that, Gold moved up to 58,000.

Not Nguyen-ing Today

When we walked up to the table Men Nguyen's tournament life was on the line against David Singer. Nguyen showed {8-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and was well behind Singer with {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

The board brought little help to Nguyen when it came down {6-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} and Nguyen was headed toward the rail.

Brikis Calls Blind

A player from early position moved all in for 2,400. It folded around to Josh Brikis who said, "I haven't even looked yet," and tossed in the chips, making the call.

Brikis: {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}
Opponent: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

The board, {q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{a-Hearts} was no help for Brikis' opponent, who made an bit of an early exit to the day.

Davis Framed

We arrived just in time to see snooker legend Steve Davis double up with {a-}{q-} on an ace-high board. He doubled to perhaps 50,000. Some interesting light was shed on the action by another player at the table.

"You owe me 500," said the other player.

"Sorry?" said Davis; good to know he had no idea what the gentleman was talking about either.

"Next time, over-raise against me and we'll be even," continued the player.

"I might never do it again," said Davis.

Keating Chips Up

After a series of raises, Alex Keating and his opponent got all the chips in the middle preflop.

Keating showed {a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and his opponent tabled {a-}{j-}.

The board rolled out {2-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{2-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and Keating took the pot and is up to 52,200.

Aguiar Takes a Dive

We caught the action as the flop was being dealt. Both players' cards were on their backs, the player in late position all in for 13,300.

Mr. Late Position: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Jon Aguiar: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Board: {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades}

The flop was good for Aguiar but the river was not. He dropped to 23,000.

Hoss Trots Off

Matt Hawrilenko shoved for 15,900 in early position and the gentleman in the small blind called all in for just 6,200.

Hawrilenko: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Small blind shortie: {k-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Board: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}

The player in the small blind spiked a king and doubled to 13,000. Hawrilenko was very firmly in the danger zone on just 8,000 after that, and indeed hit the rail a few hands later.
