James "Flushy" Dempsey has just brought fellow bracelet winner Gavin Smith over to this tournament to gawk at Dempsey's friend Paul Parker's outfit. Parker, well known on the British circuit for his sartorial extravagance, is indeed looking particularly awesome today in a multicoloured paisley shirt, bold check trousers, purple and turquoise striped socks and a houndstooth fedora.
The two of them were discussing a British poker awards ceremony a couple years back where we seem to recall (although the drinks were flowing pretty heavily) that they were both nominated in both the Best Dressed and the Worst Dressed categories. Parker took the Best Dressed that time around, and Dempsey the Worst Dressed. We would stand by that decision at this time.
We got to the table just in time to see all the chips go in on the river of the board. Whatever James Mackey's opponent had will remain known only to him, as Mackey flipped for a flush and his opponent just mucked.
It was a blind versus blind battle when the player in the small blind made it 3,200 to go. Lauren Kling made the call from the big blind and the flop came down .
The player in the small blind tossed in a bet of 4,200 and Kling made the call.
On the turn, the player in the small blind made it 7,500, leaving only 6,000 behind.
"I know you're bluffing," Kling said. She got down to the business of stacking all her chips, making it look like she was about to shove, but instead, tossed her cards toward the muck.
She didn't win the battle this time, and is sitting on 22,000.
Victor Ramdin told us an interesting tale of woe from the deck.
We understand that he raised to 3,600 under the gun with pocket fours and got two callers to see a flop with two hearts and one club on it. He bet out 6,000 and the first caller folded. The second one, however, called again.
The turn was another club, and this time Ramdin checked. His opponent went all in, Ramdin called, and they revealed their hands - Ramdin his set of fours, and his opponent for overcards and a flush draw.
The river duly came another club giving Ramdin's opponent the flush while failing to pair the board. The unfortunate Ramdin dropped to 47,000.
