Le's Nine Beats a Ten

Victor Ramdin checked after the second draw and the next player to act fired a bet. Nam Le was up next and made the call. Ramdin mucked. The unknown player then stood pat before Le took one card. After that, both players checked.

Le's {9-}{8-}{6-}{5-}{2-} was good enough to best his opponent's {10-}{7-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and he picked up a few hundred chips.

Rule Verification

Ted Forrest check-called a bet after all three draws from Kirk Banks. Banks then spread the {8-}{7-}{6-}{2-}{2-}, having a pair of deuces. The dealer announced that Banks held an eighty-seven and Forrest almost mucked. Someone else at the table saw that Banks held a pair of deuces and called it out. Forrest checked and then tabled his ten-eight for the winning hand. This brought up some discussion as to whether or not you're able to spread a hand that has a pair in it during this tournament. Some of the players claimed that in some places, you can't spread a pair. Forrest wanted to know what happened when the dealer called the wrong hand and almost caused Forrest to muck.

After talking with the floor staff, the players were informed that you can indeed spread pairs. "Do all the angle shooting you wants boys!" announced the player who went and talked with the floor about the rule on spreading hands with pairs or worse in them. The dealer was also instructed to make sure he called out the right hands.

Number Three For Bloch

Andy Bloch raised on the button, receiving calls by the player in the small blind and Mark Roland in the big blind.

The player in the small blind drew three, Roland drew two, and Bloch two as well. The small blind bet, Roland raised, and Bloch made it three bets. He was called by both and they went to the second draw.

The small blind drew two and Roland drew one, while Bloch stood pat. It was checked to Bloch and he bet, getting calls from both opponents. The third draw went exactly the same as the second and Bloch bet again when the action was checked to him. The small blind called and Roland tossed his hand to the dealer. Bloch tabled number three, {7-}{6-}{5-}{3-}{2-}, and the chips were pushed his way.

Bloch is still below the starting stack, currently sitting with 6,300.

One for Glantz

Matt Glantz raised form middle position and the big blind called. The big blind then drew one and Glantz drew two. Glantz bet after his opponent checked to him post-draw and the player called.

On the next draw, both players draw one. Action then went check, bet, call again. The big blind then drew one more and Glantz stood pat.

After the final draw, the big blind checked and Glantz checked behind before tabling his {9-}{8-}{6-}{3-}{2-}. He won the hand and moved himself up to about 9,500 chips.

Chen Takes One Off Fischman

Joe Serock and one other player checked before Scott Fischman fired a bet after the first draw. Yan Chen, who placed third in last year's event, raised and was able to get himself heads up with Fischman. Both players then drew one. Then they both checked.

On the third and final draw, both players drew one again. Fischman checked and Chen fired a bet. Fischman folded and Chen was able to pick up the pot and move himself back to 8,000 chips. Fischman lost the pot, but still has 10,000 chips.
