Dinner Bell

We've played six levels today, and it's time for a good ol' dinner break. We'll be back in 90 minutes as play will resume right around 8:10 p.m.

Boeree Bolstered

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

Matthew Colvin opened with a raise from the cutoff seat, and Liv Boeree three-bet to 3,500 from the small blind. Colvin came right back with a four-bet to 13,500, and Boeree moved all in for just about that much, putting her own tournament life in jeopardy.

Showdown
Boeree: {A-Spades} {K-Diamonds}
Colvin: {Q-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}

The board ran out favorably blank for Boeree, coming {7-Clubs} {5-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {J-Spades} {2-Clubs}. That spells a big double up for the lady, sitting now with about 28,000. Colvin is down to 8,500.

Brenes Doubles Through Hawkins Again

Humberto Brenes has just picked up his second double up in as many orbits, and it once again came courtesy of Brian Hawkins. And once again, it was ace-queen that Humberto had to fade to stay alive.

This time, Brenes opened the pot to 1,700 with {J-Hearts} {J-Spades}, and Hawkins made it 4,200 with {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}. Brenes put the rest of his chips into the pot on a small reraise, and the cards were on their backs. Brenes' pocket pair held up to win the race on a board of {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {6-Hearts} {4-Clubs}, doubling him up to 11,500. Hawkins is now starting to get in trouble himself, down to 5,750.

Akenhead Getting Short

From the cutoff seat, James Akenhead came in raising to 1,000. Cornel Andrew Cimpan called from the big blind, and it was heads up to the flop.

The dealer spread out {6-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}, and the action check-checked. On the {A-Spades} turn, Cimpan check-called a bet of 1,150, and both players checked again when the {A-Clubs} hit the river. Cimpan turned up {J-Clubs} {9-Spades}, and it was the best hand. Akenhead sent his cards into the muck, sliding his chip stack down to a dangerously short 2,500.

Cimpan, on the other hand, is doing just fine with 35,000 chips.

Krux Crushed

An unknown player opened to 900, and Al Krux potted it up to 3,400, leaving himself just 725 behind. The original raiser put him all in, and Krux put his tournament life in the hands of the dealer and his {6-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}, racing against his opponent's {A-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}.

It was not a good race for Krux. The board crushed his little pair as it ran out {A-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Spades}. With that, the perpetually tan Krux wished his table luck and headed for the exit.

Marc Naalden Hits the Rail

Marc Naalden opened the pot with a raise to 1,025 and Joshua Gibson re-popped it to 3,675. Naalden went all in for about 6,000 more and got called.

Showdown:

Marc Naalden: {a-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Joshua Gibson: {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}

The board ran out {3-Spades}{7-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{9-Clubs} and the 2009 bracelet winner is out of the tournament. Joshua Gibson is now up to 45,000 chips.

The Shark is Coming

Humberto Brenes
Humberto Brenes

A player in middle position opened to 1,000 and Humberto Brenes made the call for a significant chunk of his remaining stack. In the small blind, Brian Hawkins three-bet to 3,750, and that was enough to fold the original raiser. Brenes, however, made the call all in for his last 2,725 chips, putting himself all in and at risk. The news was good:

Brenes: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}
Hawkins: {A-Spades} {Q-Hearts}

The board ran out safe for Humberto and his cowboys: {J-Spades} {8-Clubs} {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {6-Hearts}

That spells a much-needed double up for Brenes, pushing him up to about 7,500. Hawkins has slipped a bit, but he still has twice the stack of Brenes.

No Repeat for Kelly

First into the pot, JP Kelly opened with a raise to 1,400. Jared Jaffey three-bet the minimum, making it 2,800 straight. Kelly promptly moved all in for 3,600 total, and Jaffey quickly called to put his man at risk.

Showdown
Kelly: {K-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}
Jaffey: {J-Spades} {J-Diamonds}

Kelly couldn't connect hard enough with a board that ran out {9-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {J-Clubs} {10-Diamonds}, and our defending champion has been eliminated. Someone new will hoist this pot-limit hold'em bracelet this year.

Quads for Boeree

Liv Boeree
Liv Boeree

Liv Boeree opened the pot with a 300-chip bet and Stephen Chidwick re-popped it to 2,100. Liv went all in for more 5,800 and "stevie444" called.

Showdown:

Boeree: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Chidwick: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

Board: {7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

That's quads for Boeree who now has 12,000, Chidwick dropped to 14,000.
