Landfish Sushi

Nick Schulman raised from the cutoff only to have Daniel Idema three-bet from the button. Steve Landfish made the call from the big blind, and Schulman came along for the ride as well. When the flop fell {2-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, the betting really took off, well after both Landfish and Shulman checked. Idema took the opportunity to bet, Landfish check-raised, Schulman three-bet, and Idema put in the four-bet.

Landfish tanked for a long time before folding his hand, inspiring Schulman to make the call. Both players checked the {J-Clubs} turn, which was followed by the {Q-Diamonds} on the river. It went bet-call as Schulman showed down {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for two pair. Idema showed {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for the same two pair and the duo chopped up Landfish's money.

Nice Pot for Alabama Cowboy

Hoyt Corkins
Hoyt Corkins

Steve Landfish raised on the button only to have Domenico Denotaristefani three-bet from the small blind. Hoyt Corkins was in the big blind and quickly announced a four-bet. Landfish got out of the way while Denotaristefani made the call.

Denotaristefani checked the {6-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} flop, Corkins bet, Denotaristefani check-raised, and Corkins made the call. When the {K-Hearts} was put out on the turn, Denotaristefani decided to slow down and ended up check-calling a Corkins' bet. The same action occurred on the {4-Spades} river and Corkins, nicknamed the "Alabama Cowboy," flipped over {K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. Denotaristefani did not look happy as he tossed his cards to the middle of the table.

Automatic Shufflers!

Level 19 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante

The Rio has been packed today with the numerous events being held; as such, the players in the Limit Hold'em Championship were not seated at tables with automatic shufflers. That is about to change as some tables equipped with the machines are now available. The players are racking their chips and switching tables, much to their delight.

Schulman Yo-Yoing

Daniel Idema raised under the gun and Nick Schulman called from the big blind. Schulman check-called Idema’s bet on the {10-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop. On the {2-Spades} turn, Schulman led out and Idema made the call. Schulman check-called once more when the {J-Spades} hit the river and was shown Idema’s {Q-Spades}{10-Spades} for top pair on the flop that became a flush on the river.

The next orbit, Hoyt Corkins raised on the button and Schulman called again from the big blind. Both players checked the {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop and Schulman led out on the {2-Diamonds} turn. Corkins made the call with the action the same on the {5-Diamonds} river. Schulman turned over {J-Hearts}{2-Hearts} for a flush draw on the flop that gave him bottom pair on the turn. Corkins mucked and Schulman reversed what happened to him on the previous hand.

Hawrilenko Sliding

Matt Hawrilenko raised in the cutoff only to have Steve Landfish reraise from the button. The blinds got out of the way, Hawrilenko made the call, and the flop came down {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{Q-Hearts}. It went check-bet-raise-call before the {6-Clubs} hit the turn.

This time it went bet-raise-call, which was followed by the {7-Diamonds} on the river. Hawrilenko checked, Landfish bet, and Hawrilenko folded his hand.

Marwan Abdelal (14th- $24,060)

Domenico Denotaristefani raised from middle position only to have Marwan Abdelal reraise from the button. Nick Schulman proceeded to four-bet from the small blind, Denotaristefani five bet, Abdelal called all in for 52,000 total, and Schulman made the call.

The two active players checked both the {K-Clubs}{2-Spades}{8-Spades} flop and {J-Diamonds} turn. Schulman then led out on the {4-Hearts} river. "You'd better have me beat," Denotaristefani said as he laid down his hand, which he claimed to be {A-}{Q-}. Schulman showed {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts}, which was better than Abdelal's {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

Domenico Crippled, Then Triples

We caught up with the action on a {K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} board where Matt Hawrilenko bet and Domenico Denotaristefani called. Hawrilenko bet again when the {8-Spades} landed on the river and Denotaristefani went into the tank. If Denotaristefani made the call, he would only have 6,000 left. He decided to wait for another hand which left him at 30,000.

That hand would be the very next as Hawrilenko led out on the {K-Spades}{J-Spades}{5-Spades} flop. Denotaristefani called all in and Hoyt Corkins made the call as well. Hawrilenko bet again on the {5-Clubs} turn and Corkins stuck around. On the {A-Diamonds} river, Hawrilenko bet one last time and Denotaristefani slammed the table as Corkins laid his hand down. Hawrilenko turned over {K-Clubs}{9-Spades} for a pair of kings and a flush draw on the flop that became kings up on the river. Denotaristefani who said he thought he had lost when Hawrilenko bet the river turned over {A-Spades}{2-Clubs} for the nut flush draw on the flop that made a better two pair by the end.

Landfish Cripples Corkins

Steve Landfish
Steve Landfish

Hoyt Corkins raised from middle position and received a single call in the form of Steve Landfish, who checked the {8-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{5-Hearts} flop. Corkins bet, Landfish check-raised, and Corkings made the call. Landfish then led out on the {A-Hearts} turn, Corkins called, and both players checked the {K-Spades} river.

"One pair," Landfish said as he revealed {9-Spades}{8-Spades}. It was good as a resigned Corkins flipped over his {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}.
