Play has now finished for the day with around 127 players remaining from the initial 168 who started. WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener looks to be the chip leader with 95,200 just ahead of Akio Ishii (90,400).

Other players who finished strongly include: $10,000 Stud 3rd place finisher Maxwell Troy (88,000), David Benyamine (82,200), Brandon Cantu and Felipe Ramos (both 80,000 exactly) and Allen Kessler (79,500).

We lost a number of big names today including former POY and winner of this event last year Frank Kassela as well as Daniel Negreanu, Tom Dwan, Alexander Kostritsyn, Brian Hastings, John Hennigan and John Juanda. The last of these having bet Jason Mercier @ 200-1 that he wouldn't win the event when Mercier was short stacked but the Team PokerStars Pro is one of the survivors going into tomorrow's restart.

All the rest will be coming back tomorrow for a 3pm start as we attempt to whittle this field as close to the final table as is possible. Join us back on PokerNews tomorrow as Day 2 of this latest Championship event plays out some more.
