Event #34: $1,000 No-Limit Hold’em

Day 2 Started

People Get Ready, Day 2 is Coming!

Action is set to kick off here in the Amazon room at 2:30 and there will be 323 players battling it out on the felt this afternoon. There was a mistake in the full chipcounts reported from WSOP earlier, and we have confirmed that Christopher McClung is our chipleader to start the day with 114,100.

Players to watch today include big stacks Luke Davies and Nick Petrangelo, as well as Team PokerStars Pro Gualter Salles (Brazil), Lars Bonding, James Carroll, Dwyte Pilgrim, Matt Affleck, Barry Shulman, Chad Batista, and Mike Leah.

As a result of the money bubble breaking on the last hand of the night yesterday, we imagine that bustouts will come fast and furious during the beginning of play as the short stacks who snuck past the bubble attempt to make some moves.

Play will begin shortly so stay tuned!

Holy Bustouts Batman!

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

It seems every few seconds another dealer is yelling "Payout!" meaning a player from their table has busted. At least 30 players have already busted since play began 15 minutes ago and it seems that there will still be a lot more to come.

With so many bustouts happening simultaneously, the tournament staff has their hands full getting players paid and updating information in the system. We'll keep our numbers as accurate as we can through this hectic period!

Salles Lays it Down

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Gualter Salles raised to 2,500 in early position and it appeared as though the next player to act either raised to 5,000 or moved all in for 13,500. Whichever it was, it didn’t matter since Salles folded to the raise.

Watt Wins Small One

Level 11 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

It was folded around to the small blind who limped and Simon Watt checked his option from the big. On the {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop, the small blind checked-called Watt’s bet of 1,600. On the {10-Spades} turn however, the small blind folded after Watt bet 2,600.

Watt a Turn!

Simon Watt is definitely getting involved in a lot of pots early in the day. Most recently he and Xuan Liu got all the chips in the middle preflop with Liu's {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} trailing Watt's {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}. Trailing, that is, until the flop came {q-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs} giving Liu a set of jacks and the lead.

Unfortunately for Liu that lead was short-lived as the {k-Diamonds} fell on the turn giving Watt a set of kings. The river brought an inconsequential {4-Hearts} and Liu was sent to the rail.

Crazy Eights Hurt Affleck's Stack

Matt Affleck raised from under the gun to 2,400 and was called by one player in middle position. The flop came {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Affleck bet 3,000. The other player pushed all in for a total of 13,900 and Affleck called.

Affleck: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Opponent: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

Affleck had been out-flopped and would need a king or a club to win the hand. Unfortunately the turn and river brought the {9-Spades} and {a-Diamonds} and the other player doubled up while Affleck was left with 29,000.
