Smith Straightens Up

Level 9 : 300/600, 75 ante

A player in early position opened with a raise to 1,300, and he found calls in three places, including the place occupied by Gavin Smith -- the small blind.

On the {7-Clubs} {4-Spades} {3-Diamonds} flop, the big blind bet 3,050, and only Smith called to go heads-up, blind-versus-blind to the {6-Diamonds} turn. It put four to a straight on board, and both men checked through to the {10-Diamonds} river. Smith took the lead now with 4,400 of his own chips, and his opponent made the call.

Smith showed up {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} for the straight, and it was good. That's how they do it in Guelph, apparently, and it's given Smith a chip boost up to 31,000.
