Chen Gives Up...This Time

Chen: (X)(X) / {4-}{3-}{6-}{9-} / (X)
Opponent: (X)(X) / {5-}{3-}{A-}{K-} / (X)

We caught up with the action on fifth where there was lots of raising between the two players. Tommy Chen eventually called even though he said that his opponent must be representing the wheel. Chen then check-called his opponent’s bet on fifth but check-folded on seventh. Still, Chen was sitting with the largest stack that we could find so far.

Mercier Moves On

Jason Mercier only had two or so thousand chips left and got them in against 2011 WSOP bracelet winner Daniel Idema.

Mercier: ({7-}{2-}) / {9-}{10-}{q-}{9-}
Idema: ({6-}{3-}) / {7-}{4-}{9-}{j-}

Mercier was drawing dead, but sweated his card for fun anyway. It was an ace, and he mucked his hand before exiting the tournament area.

Sklansky Takes One Down

Dyer: (X)(X) / {5-}{6-}{10-}{4-} / (X)
Sklansky: (X)(X) / {2-}{7-}{K-}{3-}
Smith: (X)(X) / {2-}{8-}{5-}{A-} FOLDED

We caught up with the action on sixth where it was checked to David Sklansky who bet. Matthew Smith folded but Greg Dyer stuck around and checked again on seventh. Sklansky bet once more which got Dyer to fold as Sklansky won the pot even though he was showing the worst board from fifth on.

Sheikhan Tables Nuts

Joachim Waffenschmidt (X)(X) / {3-}{2-}{5-}{3-} / (X)
Jason Somerville: (X)(X) / {6-}{q-}{8-} FOLDED
Shawn Sheikhan: (X)(X) / {2-}{9-}{4-}{5-} / (X)

Waffenschmidt completed, Somerville called, and Sheikhan called too. Waffenschmidt led on fourth and fifth street, receiving calls from both players on fourth and only Sheikhan on fifth. Waffenschmidt slowed down, check-calling bets on sixth and seventh, and mucked when Sheikhan opened up {a-}{8-}{3-} for the nuts.

Abdul Laak?

Phil Laak
Phil Laak

A player brought in with a king and before Phil Laak completed with a 2, he said “My name is Abdul and I’ve gone to Gambool”. The completion won the pot and afterwards, Laak said “Ah, chips ahoy”. With Laak having a decent stack that is far above average at this point, we can hopefully expect some more entertaining quotes from him throughout the day.

Multi-Tabling on Table 288

Level 11 : 1,000/2,000, 200 ante

Razz isn't the most excited game in the world, so tablemates Calvin Anderson, McLean Karr, and Stephen Chidwick have decided to play a little Chinese Poker. They've all whipped out their iPads, and are setting Chinese hands in-between the Razz hands they play.

"Let's turn mis-set off," Karr suggested. "We have so much going on."

That's probably a sound idea, Mr. Karr.

O'Brien O'Busto

Dan O'Brien: (X)(X) / {5-}{8-}{8-}{a-} / (X)
Perry Friedman: (X)(X) / {8-}{9-}{9-} FOLDED
Daniel Idema: (X)(X) / {10-}{6-}{4-}{2-} / (X)

We reached the table on fifth street, where Idema bet, and O'Brien thought for a fairly long time before calling. Friedman folded. Both O'Brien and Idema were dealt great card on sixth, an {a-} and a {2-} respectively, and O'Brien got the remainder of his chips (just less than three bets) in the middle. Idema called.

O'Brien: {6-}{4-}
Idema: {a-}{3-}

O'Brien was drawing dead, and began collecting his things while seventh was dealt. Idema turned over a {k-}, and the dealer opened up O'Brien's {j-}.

Idema, this year's $10,000 Limit Hold'em Champion, is now above 40,000 chips.
