Event #53: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em Championship

Day 3 Started

Thirteen Women, One Man Vie for Ladies Bracelet

Welcome back to Event #53: $1,000 Ladies No-Limit Hold’em of what should be the third and final day. Fourteen players, and we say players instead of ladies since one man is still among them, return to hopefully play down to a champion today. If that isn’t achieved within ten levels of play however, like many events this summer, play will be extended to a fourth day tomorrow.

The chip leader going into the day is Valerie McColligan with 482,000 in chips who is the only player currently above the 400,000 chip mark. Still in contention are big names Amanda Baker (326,000) and Karine Jett (140,000). As mentioned though, Jonathan Epstein, the last of the men who originally entered the field, is still left as well with 216,000 in chips and all eyes will certainly be on him.

Play is set to resume in around 20 minutes at 2:30 p.m. PDT in the Amazon Room on each of the secondary ESPN feature tables. Be sure to follow of the action with us here at PokerNews as the field is whittled down and a winner is hopefully determined who will take home the $192,344 first place prize and a fine new piece of jewellery.

Laura Desantis Eliminated in 14th Place ($8,697)

Laura Desantis - 14th Place ($8,697)
Laura Desantis - 14th Place ($8,697)

In the very first hand over on the secondary feature table, Laura Desantis open-shoved from the hijack but was quickly called by Valerie McColligan. All the others got out of the way before the cards were tabled:

Desantis: {A-Spades}{5-Hearts}
McColligan: {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}

Even though Desantis was in the lead, it was relinquished to McColligan after the flop of {Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}. The repeat {7-Diamonds} on the turn improved McColligan to two pair, which held up after the {8-Hearts} blanked out on the river.

And just like that, we're down to 13 players! McColligan is now the first player to move past the half-million chip mark.

Mafalda Lopes Eliminated in 13th Place ($8,697)

Mafalda Lopes - 13th Place ($8,697)
Mafalda Lopes - 13th Place ($8,697)

Mafalda Lopes who started the day with the second shortest stack moved all in from early position for 69,000. It was folded around to Amanda Baker in the big blind who made the call to put Lopes at risk as the players turned over their hands.

Baker: {A-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Lopes: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The flop came down {A-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{2-Hearts} to give Baker top pair but Lopez a flush draw. The {6-Spades} on the turn changed nothing and Lopes would need any heart on the river to survive and double up. Unfortunately for her, it came the {J-Diamonds} and she was eliminated.

Karen Fisher Eliminated in 12th Place ($10,843)

Karen Fisher - 12th Place ($10,843)
Karen Fisher - 12th Place ($10,843)

Karen Fisher moved all in on the button for 33,000 and both blinds called in Jennifer Cowan and Carol Tomlinson to form a possible sidepot. On the {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop, Cowan checked to Tomlinson who went all in herself. Cowan folded and the two remaining players turned theirs hands.

Tomlinson: {A-Spades}{3-Diamonds}
Fisher: {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}

Tomlinson had flopped trips and Fisher would need runner-runner to stay alive and double up. The {5-Diamonds} on the turn gave Fisher some outs for the chop with one of the two remaining fives. Unfortunately for her, the river was the {Q-Clubs} and she was eliminated.

Gloutnez Takes a Chunk From Ledman

Over on the secondary feature table, Peg Ledman came in with a raise of 40,000 from middle position before Genevieve Gloutnez shoved from the cut-off with {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}. Ledman thought about it for a minute or two before making the call, but was trailing Gloutnez with her {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}.

The flop of {2-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} improved neither hand, but the {10-Hearts} on the turn gave Ledman even more hope with the outs for the straight. No mas - the river was the {K-Diamonds} and gave Gloutnez the pair and the double-up

Cowan Doubles Through Baker

Amanda Baker raised to 24,000 in the cutoff and was called by Jennifer Cowan on the button and Carol Tomlinson from the big blind. Tomlinsonchecked dark as the {9-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{4-Clubs} came down on the flop. Baker bet 33,000 and Cowan moved all in for 161,000 total. Tomlinson folded and Baker went into the tank before she called.

Cowan: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Baker: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}

Cowan had flopped top set while Baker had a flush draw and would need to hit a club that didn’t pair the board to knock out her opponent. The {4-Spades} on the turn had Baker drawing dead and the {6-Hearts} on the river doubled up Cowan.

Amanda Baker Eliminated in 11th Place ($10,843)

Amanda Baker -11th Place ($10,843)
Amanda Baker -11th Place ($10,843)

Carol Tomlinson raised to 42,000 on the button and Amanda Baker moved all in for just under 200,000 from the big blind. Tomlinson made the call as the players turned up their hands.

Tomlinson: {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Baker: {2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}

It was a classic coinflip for Baker’s tournament life and the {K-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop came down clean for her. The {Q-Clubs} on the turn gave Tomlinson straight and flush draws to go along with her two overs. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and Tomlinson screamed, “YES, YES, YES BABY!!!”. Baker was eliminated as the unofficial final table bubble girl and Tomlinson was given a warning for excessive celebration.
