Smith Falls Short of a Comeback

A short-stacked Roger Smith was all in from the get go with pocket aces and out in front of Lee Goldman's pocket queens. Unfortunately for Smith, his opponent would spike two pair on seventh and his day came up short in 20th place, just four spots shy of the money.

Smith: {A-Spades}{A-Clubs} / {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{10-Hearts} / {4-Spades}
Goldman: {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} / {10-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{2-Spades}{J-Spades} / {J-Hearts}

Let's Go, Freddie!

Freddie Ellis has wrestled the chip lead away from Bryn Kenney.

Ellis: (x-x) / {4-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {9-Clubs} / (x)
Kenney: (x-x) / {K-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {6-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} / (x)

Ellis was the completer on third street, and Kenney made a raise. Ellis raised it right back, and Kenney flatted to proceed. Ellis got bets in on the next three streets with Kenney calling the first two bullets. The sixth-street bet was too much, though, and Kenney check-folded.

Violette Charging Hard

Cyndy Violette is on a serious rush since the last break, and we just saw her drag another pot at the expense of John Monnette.

There was three-way action between the two of them and Yuval Bronshtein when we walked up to a very large pot on sixth street.

Bronshtein: (x-x) / {6-Clubs} {K-Spades} {2-Diamonds} {4-Hearts} / (x)
Violette: (x-x) / {2-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {A-Spades} {8-Diamonds} / (x)
Monnette: (x-x) / {3-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} / (x)

Monnette was the bettor on fifth street, and Bronshtein tanked for ages before folding. Violette paused too, but she eventually did make the call to see the last card. They both checked on seventh street.

Violette rolled over {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds} {8-Clubs}, and her kings up were the best hand. Monnette was pretty upset at what he saw, and he stared forlornly at his cards for several seconds before dropping them into the muck.

With a completion in front of him, Nacho Barbero raised the {5-Diamonds}, and Yuval Bronshtein reraised with the {9-Clubs}. Barbero called, and off they went heads-up to fourth street.

Barbero: (x-x) / {5-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {2-Clubs} / (x)
Bronshtein: (x-x) / {9-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {2-Spades} / (x)

Bronshtein made the bets on fourth, fifth, and sixth streets, then check-called a bullet from Barbero on seventh. We only got to see the {2-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} from Barbero's hand as he showed his pair and his missed diamonds. Bronshtein rolled over {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} {3-Clubs} / {9-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {2-Spades} to take the pot with aces.

Kenney Cripples Smith

Bryn Kenney brought it in with the {3-Diamonds} and then called when Roger Smith completed with his {J-Hearts}. Kenney then called a bet on the turn before it went check-check on fifth street. Sixth saw Smith check-call a bet, which he also did on seventh.

"Straight," Kenney said as he rolled over his hand. Smith mucked and dropped to just 2,500.

Kenney: {5-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} / {3-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Smith: (x-x) / {J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{9-Clubs} / (x)

Smith doubled on the very next hand to 5,000, but he's got a long way to go to make a comeback.

More For Freddie

Freddie Ellis
Freddie Ellis

Freddie Ellis completed with the {8-Clubs}, and Mike Sexton called along with the {Q-Hearts} up.

Ellis: (x-x) / {8-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {2-Diamonds} / (x)
Sexton: (x-x) / {Q-Hearts} {A-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {3-Clubs} / (x)

Ellis bet it all the way down through seventh street with Sexton calling every street. In the end, Ellis revealed {8-Spades} {4-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}, and his full house took the pot. With it comes a boost up over 160,000, and Sexton has slipped back under 60,000 himself.

Goldman Dents Kenney

Heads-up action between Lee Goldman and Bryn Kenney:

Goldman: (x-x) / {J-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {7-Diamonds} {J-Spades} / (x)
Kenney: (x-x) / {4-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {6-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} / (x)

Goldman check-called a bet on fourth, then called a bet on fifth when Kenney picked up the lead. Goldman re-took the lead on sixth and made a bet of his own, and the two men checked it down on the final street.

Goldman revealed {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {10-Spades} in the hole, and his two pair were good.
