Polk Completes Amazing Comeback To Beat Lichtenberger

Douglas Polk
Douglas Polk

Douglas Polk was down to just 12,300 chips at one point but that didn't keep him from making the round of 16. Andrew Lichtenberger lost a series of all ins ending his tournament with a $966 profit. We caught the final two hands that secured the win for Polk.

On a {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{3-Spades} flop Lichtenberger check-called a 15,600 bet and the turn was the {4-Spades}. Both players checked and the river was the {J-Diamonds}. Lichtenberger opted to bet 36,000 and after tanking for quite a bit Polk moved all in. Lichtenberger did some thinking on his part before releasing his hand. After this hand Polk was up to 374,000 while Lichtenberger was getting short, he had 104,000 left.

On the final hand the board read {J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and Pol bet 15,600. Lichtenberger called after which the dealer brought out the {K-Spades}. Polk put Lichtenberger all in and he called and mucked after his opponent showed {10-Spades}{7-Spades} for trip sevens. Polk moves on to the next round and will play the winner of the match between Brock Parker and Mark Radoja.

Gross Gets By Elias

Jeffrey Gross
Jeffrey Gross

With the chip lead, Jeffrey Gross shoved on the button. Darren Elias called all in for about 60,000 with {K-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}. He looked to get there against the {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs} of Gross, but it was going to be difficult to do so after the flop fell {K-Spades}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. Elias paired his king, but Gross was well ahead with bottom set. The {8-Hearts} turn and {5-Diamonds} officially ended it, sending Gross to the sweet 16 where he will face Vanessa Selbst.

Esfandiari Busts, Chen First Player in Round of 8

Tommy Chen
Tommy Chen

Things moved fast in the match between Antonio Esfandiari and Tommy Chen. We just saw a {A-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop when Antonio Esfandiari moved all in. Chen double checked his cards and quickly made the call showing {A-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Esfandiari was in trouble showing {6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} and he lost this bullet when the turn brought the {A-Hearts} and the river the {6-Hearts}.

Esfandiari cashed in his final lammer and just a few hands later the match was over. Esfandiari raised to 8,000 from the button and Chen made it 28,000 from the big blind. Esfandiari shoved all in and Chen snap-called tabling {A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Esfandiari showed {A-}{Q-} and the board ran out {J-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Spades} busting him from the tournament.

There are still seven matches in progress and Tommy Chen will play against the winner of the match between Chris Moore and Paul Volpe.

Hastings Moving On; Defeats Singh

Brian Hastings
Brian Hastings

Brian Hastings built up his lead in chips, leading to Amritraj Singh using his lammers before Hastings closed out the match.

Following a {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} flop, Hastings checked to Singh who bet 28,000. Hastings popped it to 75,000 before Singh moved all in for his remaining 210,000. A call from Hastings revealed {Q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} for a flush draw, trailing Singh's {10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for top pair and a smaller flush draw.

The {6-Hearts} turn improved Hastings' chances a bit and sure enough the {6-Spades} hit the river, giving Hastings trips to win the pot and advance to the Elite Eight.

He awaits the winner of Vanessa Selbst vs. Jeffrey Gross.
