Welcome to our ongoing coverage of the 2012 World Series of Poker. Today begins Event 40: $2,500 Limit Hold'em - Six-Handed.

Poker Hall of Famer Crandall Addington long ago referred to limit hold'em as "a science." But the fact is, many of today's top players approach the game — especially in its short-handed form — with the creativity of artists.

Last year Darren Woods topped a tough field of 354 to take the bracelet and $213,431 first prize. To win Woods had to outlast Kim Nguyen heads-up and third-place finisher Samuel Golbluff, the latter fresh off a sixth-place finish in Event 35: $2,500 Mixed Hold'em that concluded yesterday.

Three years ago Brock Parker won his first WSOP bracelet in this event, defeating Daniel Negreanu heads-up to win, then turned around to win his second just a few days later in the short-handed no-limit hold'em version. And in 2010, it was Dutch Boyd outlasting Brian Meinders to grab his second career WSOP bracelet. Meinders has demonstrated his limit hold'em prowess already again this summer with a win in Event 25: $1,500 Limit Hold'em Shootout.

Play begins a couple of hours from now at 5 PM. Come back then as we begin to track who will be the one to claim this summer's next gold bracelet, one bet at a time.
