Witek Stays Alive on the River as Money Bubble Looms

With the money bubble rapidly approaching, a short-stacked Francis Witek called all in from the big blind for 33,000 after Nicholas Augustino had pushed from the small.

Showdown

Witek{A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}
Augustino{Q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Witek was clearly nervous, even admitting as much to the table. With a minimum payday of $19,227 lurking, the flop came down {10-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{9-Hearts} to put a dagger through Witek's heart. The {8-Diamonds} turn gave Witek a few more outs to survive, and much to his relief, the {A-Clubs} spiked on the river to give him a pair of aces and the double.

Haddox's Tens Take From Zhao

We caught the action on the flop, which read {j-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Randy Haddox checked to Susie Zhao, who fired out 12,000. Haddox called, and the turn brought the {4-Diamonds}. This time, Haddox led out for 22,000, and Zhao called. The {5-Hearts} hit the river, and Haddox fired one more bullet, 33,000, and Zhao made the call. Haddox showed {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for tens and fours, and Zhao mucked her hand.

Zhao drops to 475,000 after that hand, while Haddox shoots up to 725,000.

Merrifield Doubles Through Volpe

Steve Merrifield got his stack of 252,000 all in before the flop and was called by Paul Volpe. The hands were turned over to find that Merrifield was way out in front.

Merrifield: {J-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Volpe: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The board fell {6-Hearts}{K-Hearts}{9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and Merrifield's jacks were able to hold, securing him a double close to the tournament bubble. He's currently sitting on about 510,000 while Volpe has fallen to 650,000 in chips.

Kennedy Survives As Bubble Approaches

Rodrick Kennedy open-pushed all in for his last 69,000, and got a single caller in Andrew Lee from the big blind. Kennedy rolled over {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, while Lee had {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}.

The board ran out {Q-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, that river four completing a wheel for Kennedy. With the bubble looming ever closer, Kennedy survived with the double-up.

Up and Down Dag

Dag Martin Mikkelsen has seen his stack slip down to well below 200,000 multiple times during the early stages of Day 4, even having his stack all in twice. The latest all in from Mikkelsen saw him holding {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} against the big stack of James Keys, who held {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}.

It was bleak times for Mikkelsen, but by the time the {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} board had ran out, Mikkelsen had a huge amount of outs heading into the river. One of those outs happened to be the {6-Diamonds} and that's what peeled off as the last card on the board. With that, Mikkelsen doubled up from around 129,000.

Shak Misclicks, Spikes River

Dan Shak
Dan Shak

We heard the familiar cry from a dealer "All in and a call!" and saw Dan Shak with a funny look on his face. The board was {J-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {7-Hearts}, Marc Negron moved in and Shak called.

Negron: {7-Spades} {7-Diamonds}
Shak: {K-Hearts}{7-Clubs}

"I didn't even see him raise preflop," Shak said. "I was just raising the small blind."

The cameras swarmed and both players had a decent sweat before the river was dealt. The card peeled off {K-Clubs} and Shak spike a miracle card to stay alive.

Joseph's Mistake Pays Off

We heard the cry of all in and call from Table 365, so we went over to investigate. We saw that Timothy Joseph and his 29,000 chips were at risk preflop with {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, and they were up against the {7-Clubs}{7-Spades} of Morten Ahrensbach. But we heard Joseph say "I didn't know that he raised." Joseph was in the small blind, and apparently he shoved all in thinking he just had the big blind to deal with. However, Ahrensbach had raised to 11,000 in middle position, and made the easy pot committed call with his sevens.

"What a dumb mistake" Joseph said to himself. However, it all worked out, as the board ran down {j-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}. Joseph doubled to 65,000 as we approach the money bubble.

Volpe Busts Jaddi Close to Bubble

We found Salman Jaddi get his last roughly 200,000 all in on a board of {8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{J-Clubs} against Paul Volpe.

Volpe showed {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for bottom set and was well ahead of Jaddi's {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}.

Jaddi would need an ace to stay alive in the tournament but did not find it on the {K-Hearts} turn or the {5-Hearts} river and he was eliminated a few spots away from the money.

Volpe is now flirting with one million in chips with a stack of 997,000.
