Straight is Good for Volpe

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

Paul Volpe opened to 6,000, James Lee defended his big blind, and both players drew one card. Lee checked, and after tanking for a bit, Volpe fired out 25,000. Lee tank-folded.

"I have two-three-four-five and a three-sider," Volpe said, sweating his card. "Six!"

Volpe had made a straight, but it was no matter because Lee mucked.

Eighty-Six For Lee

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

Paul Volpe raised to 6,000 from under the gun and players around the table shot their hands into the muck until it reached James Lee in the small blind. Lee cut out a three-bet to 13,500 and it folded back to Volpe who called.

Lee stood pat and Volpe drew one. Lee checked post-draw which prompted Volpe to toss 22,000 into the center. Lee went into the tank for about forty seconds before tossing out a call and rolling over {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{3-}.

Volpe shook his head, signifying Lee's hand was good. Volpe flashed {9-}{7-}{6-}{3-}{2-} before his cards were mucked. Lee picked up the pot and is now right around 110,000 in chips.

Calvin Cruising on the Bubble

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

Calvin Anderson, who has chipped up very nicely on the bubble, raised to 6,000 in the cutoff. A short-stacked Larry Wright called on the button, and Layne Flack defended his big blind.

Flack checked, Anderson fired out 21,000, and Wright tanked for a very long time before folding. Flack instantly called.

"Ten," Anderson announced.

"I have a ten too," Flack said, showing a ten-eight low.

It was no good against Anderson's {10-}{7-}{6-}{4-}{2-} though, and he scooped the pot.

"How the hell did y'all both make a ten when I had two?" Wright asked after the hand.

Wright Doubles Through Flack

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

Larry Wright opened to 6,000 from under the gun and it folded to Layne Flack who made it 21,000 from the button. Action folded back to Wright and he called all in for his last 18,100. Each player opted to draw one and the hands were rolled on their backs.

Wright: {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}
Flack: {9-}{7-}{6-}{3-}

Flack pulled first and ripped off the {A-Spades} giving him ace-low. Wright peeked at his card and then picked it up off of the felt to see it was the {9-Diamonds}.

"Flush," said Calvin Anderson, jokingly to Wright.

Wright stopped in his tracks for a moment, looked back to his hand on the felt, then quickly pushed up the {3-Hearts} to signify that he didn't have a flush.

"Oooh, you son of a bitch!" said Wright with a laugh and he raked in the double up.

Wright is now sitting on about 40,000 in chips.

Back

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

The cards are back in the air, and because the tournament is on the money bubble, it will remain at this level until another player is eliminated. At that point, Level 15 will begin with however much time is remaining on the clock.

Dinner

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

The players are now on a 60-minute dinner break.

Stinger Doubles

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante

On the first hand of hand-for-hand play, Brian Hastings open-shoved for 19,800 from under the gun. Larry Wright called in the big blind, opting to pat. Hastings drew one card.

Hastings had to wait for the other two tables to finish, and when they did he received his down card.

"It's not paint," he said, squeezing it. "I got it."

Sure enough, Hastings ripped over a {3-}, giving him a winning ten-six low to double on the bubble.

Anderson Scores Double KO, Busts Laak and Pescatori

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 700 ante
Phil Laak - Eliminated
Phil Laak - Eliminated

Action began with an early positioned Max Pescatori moving all in for his last 22,600. Action folded to Phil Laak on the button who took a moment before announcing that he was all in over the top for 54,900. John Hennigan folded his small blind and Calvin Anderson went into the tank in the big blind. Anderson thought for about a minute before moving out a call.

Anderson rolled over his ten-seven low and both of his opponents were drawing live to stay in. Pescatori wasted no time ripping off his card and showed the {7-Spades} to pair and eliminate him from play.

"I have several gaps," said Laak, moving his cards in descending order on the felt. He placed his new card between the eight and the six. "I won't get greedy".

He tabled his final card to reveal that it was the {J-Clubs} giving him jack-low for the second best hand. Laak was also eliminated from play and Anderson now has about 205,000 in chips.
