River Monsters

Level 23 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

OJ Ojiri put his last 44,000 in after Rahul Byrraju raised under the gun. Everyone else folded, and Byrraju called.

Ojiri: {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}
Byrraju: {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}, and the turn a {6-Hearts}. Things looked over for our former chipleader, but a {5-Hearts} came on the river and Ojiri pumped his fist and yelled in celebration.

At another table, Eric Kurtzman got it all in preflop with {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}, and he was a bit behind the {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} of Mario Silvestri. The flop was {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{q-Hearts}, keeping Kurtzman behind. The turn was a {9-Clubs}, and Kurtzman was down to his last card. The dealer burned and turned the {a-Clubs} though, and Kurtzman survived as well.

Karambinis Doubles Through Ojiri

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

The fall has been as swift as it's been hard for OJ Ojiri, who came into Day 3 with a big chip lead. He's down to a mere six big blinds after a recent pot.

Rahul Raju Byrraju opened under the gun, and Ojiri three-bet to 65,000. Chris Karambinis reraised all in for around 370,000 from the small blind. Ojiri called after Byrraju folded.

Ojiri: {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}
Karambinis: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Ojiri looked like he might be back on track until the flop came {k-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. The turn was a {7-Hearts} and the river a {k-Spades}, and Ojiri was left crippled.

Comel Calls Ojiri's Bluff

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Sebastien Comel picked off OJ Ojiri.
Sebastien Comel picked off OJ Ojiri.

We caught up with OJ Ojiri and Sebastien Comel in a blind battle on the river. With a big pot in front of them and a board of {2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{q-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}, Ojiri fired out 275,000. Comel thought for about a minute before making the call. Ojiri turned over {k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} for king-high, and Comel tossed {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} into the middle for top pair.

Ojiri has lost roughly half of his stack in the early going.

Two Doubles

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Nikolaus Teichert shoved over the top of Alex Dovzhenko, who called him.

Dovzhenko: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
Teichert: {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}, and Teichert doubled up.

Meanwhile, OJ Ojiri was called preflop by Owen Crowe. After a flop of {2-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, Crowe raised Ojiri's continuation-bet. Ojiri put him all in, and Crowe called.

Crowe: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}
Ojiri: {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Ojiri had just a flush draw, but he picked up additional outs when a {3-Spades} turned. The river was clean for Crowe, as it was a {q-Diamonds}, and he doubled through Ojiri.

#PokerIdea

Level 22 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Josh Arieh offered up a colorful take on the evolution of the game:

"You know what would be a handicap as poker evolves? The older you are, the less you have to ante."

Something to think about, for sure.
