Steury Hits Miracle To Stay Alive

Level 19

Stud

The chips all went in on fifth street and Aaron Steury was not a happy man when Adam Friedman's down cards were turned over. Friedman had {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} for a seven high straight. Steury had {J-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and was in dire straights. He stood up expecting to be eliminated. His sixth street card was the {Q-Spades} and Friedman said to him "you picked up a straight draw." It was a prophetic statement as Steury would squeeze his card and say "made it" as he turned over the{8-Diamonds}. Friedman sat there in shock and tossed the chips into the middle that Steury would be collecting.

George: {x-}{x-} / {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{Q-Spades} / {x-}
Guss: {x-}{x-} / {9-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} / {x-}
Morrison: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs} / {x-}

Picking up with the action on fifth street, Chris George led out with a pair of fives. Brandon Guss cut out a raise and Dennis Morrison made it three bets to go. George and Guss called to see sixth.

On sixth street, Morrison made sixes, allowing him to lead out first. Both George and Guss called and the trio received seventh street. Morrison moved all in in the dark for his last 13,000 and both of his opponents called. Guss rolled over {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for trip nines which was good enough to take the high.

George showed {8-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Spades} for an eighty-five which earned him the low. Morrison showed {K-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} for sixes and an eighty-seven for the second-best hand in both the high and the low. He was eliminated from play in 22nd place.

We missed the hand but according to Stewart Yancik, Joe Cassidy was knocked out when his pair of tens was unable to improve against Yanick who would end up hitting trip jacks. Winning that pot has moved Yancik to the top of the leader board with 400,000 in chips.

Shannon Petluck Eliminated in 18th Place ($6,178)

Stud 8

Petluck: {x-}{x-} / {9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} / {x-}
Gallo: {x-}{x-} / {5-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{2-Spades} / {x-}
Limongi: {x-}{x-} / {2-Clubs}{9-Spades}{Q-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} / {x-}

Picking up with the action on fourth street, a short-stacked Shannon Petluck tossed his last 1,000-chip into the middle. Both Mark Gallo and Michele Limongi called to see fifth. The two active players checked fifth street and Gallo was showing four to a low on sixth. He moved all in for exactly one big bet - 16,000. Limongi called, the hands were tabled, and seventh street was dealt.

Petluck: {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Gallo: {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Limongi: {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}

Gallo instantly rolled over his seventh card - the {2-Diamonds} - for two pair and a low. Limongi then squeezed out the {5-Clubs}, keeping his pair of queens behind for the high and ensuring that Gallo would take that portion. Petluck rolled over the {7-Spades}, gathered his belongings and exited the tournament area. Gallo scooped up the pot and is now up to around 75,000.

Aaron Steury Eliminated in 17th Place ($6,178)

Hold 'Em

Aaron Steury was down to less than two big blinds and after posting his big blind would call off the last of his chips when Lonnie Heimowitz opened. "Hope I'm drawing live," said Steury as he turned over {K-Hearts}{5-Spades}. "You are," said Heimowitz as he tabled {A-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. Steury would hit the {K-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades} flop to give him a pair of kings and would stay ahead on the {2-Clubs} river. The river was a cruel one for Steury, however, as it was one of three cards in the deck that could knock him out... the {A-Spades}. With Steury's elimination we are now down to 16 players and are re-drawing to the final two tables.
