Today will see thousands of hopeful players descend upon the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino with the aim of turning $1,500 into a potential $1,000,000 as Day 1a of Event #48: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em MONSTER STACK gets underway.
Last year, Brian Yoon won $1,094,349 after he came through a 6,716 player field to take away the biggest share of the $9,066,600 prize pool and a coveted gold bracelet.
Players will sit down with 15,000 chips, which is twice the regular WSOP starting stack, with blinds at 25/50. Ten 60-minute levels will be played out with 20-min breaks every two levels and a 75-min dinner break after the 6th level.
The five-day MONSTER STACK event will have two starting flights, with players having to select one to play. There are no re-entries allowed, and players are restricted to playing in just one starting flight..
The players who progress from Day 1a and tomorrow's Day 1b will come together for Day 2 on Monday, June, 25 at 11 am.

Over 2,000 players have taken a seat in the first level of Day 1a, with late registration open until the end of level eight.
Last year, this same flight achieved 2,420 entrants, so it remains to be seen if that will be beaten today.

The river fell the and Daubenfeld bet 2,800, the cutoff then raised to 8,000. Daubenfeld moved all in for 13,200 and his opponent called with fewer chips than him.
His opponent tabled for a full house and Daubenfeld then showed for a higher full house. Daubenfeld took down the pot and is off to a great start on Day 1A of the Monster Stack.

The board read and Julie Povatchuk checked to the button who bet 1,000 into a pot around 2,000. Povatchuk then moved all in for 5,250 and the button opponent called.
Her opponent tabled for flopped trips and Povatchuk showed for a flush draw. The came on the river, giving Povatchuk her flush and a much needed double up.

The flop read and all three players checked to see the turn. The first player to act bet and Lightbourne raised. The cutoff folded and Lightbourne was called to go heads-up to the river.
Lightbourne's opponent checked and he also checked for showdown. Lightbourne, who has $672,918 in WSOP earnings, saw his opponent reveal for a set and he let his hand go into the muck.
