Arends Makes Tough Call

Level 17 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Picking up the action on the river, Jans Arends in the big blind was involved in a hand with Justin Bonomo in middle position. With the board reading 56Q1010 Arends bet 650,000.

Bonomo responded with a raise to 2,650,000. That sent Arends deep into the tank as he burned through four time banks.

Eventually he made the call and tabled KQ. Bonomo could only show down QJ, handing Arends a massive pot while sending Bonomo to the bottom of the chip counts.

Two Streets of Value for Klein

Level 17 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Bill Klein opened to 225,000 from early position and received calls from Jans Arends in middle position and Alex Foxen in the big blind.

Foxen checked the 67K flop and Klein bet 250,000, receiving a call from both opponents.

The turn came the Q. Foxen checked, Klein bet 500,000, Arends folded and Foxen called.

Both players checked the 9 river. Klein showed the KQ for top two pair which was enough to take down a sizable pot. Foxen showed K9 for a worse two pair before throwing his cards into the muck.

Sam Soverel Eliminated in 7th Place ($230,066)

Level 17 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Sam Soverel
Sam Soverel

Alex Foxen opened to 220,000 from the cutoff before Sam Soverel moved almost his entire stack into the middle, leaving himself just 10,000 behind.

The button and blinds got out of the way to send the action back to Foxen who raised. Soveral quickly called off for his last few chips.

Sam Soverel: A8
Alex Foxen: JJ

Soveral was not in great shape and failed to improve on the 6310Q3 runout, sending him to the rail in seventh place.

Everyone Loves a Chop Pot

Level 17 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante

Sam Soverel bet 450,000 from early position, leaving just 125,000 behind. Justin Bonomo made the call from the small blind.

The flop came 235 and Bonomo bet 200,000. Soverel called and was at risk.

Sam Soverel: KK
Justin Bonomo: 44

Soverel was ahead with the overpair but Bonomo had many outs, having flopped an open-ended straight draw. One of those outs came for Bonomo on the 6 turn which left Soverel with no chance of outright winning the pot.

The river came the 4 leaving a six-high straight on the board, and both players chopped the pot.

Sung Joo Hyun Eliminated in 8th Place ($182,662)

Level 17 : Blinds 50,000/100,000, 100,000 ante
Sung Joo Hyun
Sung Joo Hyun

Alex Foxen opened to 200,000 from middle position and was called by Jans Arends in the small blind.

Sung Joo Hyun then moved all in for around 2,100,000 out of the big blind, getting a quick fold from Foxen. Arends thought for a moment but did end up making the call with the covering stack to put Hyun at risk.

Sung Joo Hyun: AK
Jans Arends: 1010

It was a huge coinflip with hundreds of thousands of dollars on the line. The 528 flop kept Arends in the lead but the 8 turn gave both players the spade draw with Hyun holding the better end.

The 3 river ensured the pocket pair held up, sending Hyun to the rail in eighth place.

Jans Arends opened to 160,000 from early position and received a single caller in the form of Sung Joo Hyun in middle position.

Action checked through the 7 turn to the J river at which point Arends pushed 200,000 into the middle.

Hyun responded with a raise to 550,000, sending Arends into the tank. Eventually he released his holding to send the pot over towards Hyun.
