Ashby Wins Some Cashby

I told you Richard Ashby was one to watch, check out this hand:

On a flop of {Q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}, Matthew Hankins bets and Ashby calls.

Turn brings a {2-Diamonds}. Hankins bets, Ashby reraises, Hankins calls.

River is a {5-Spades}. Hankins checks, Ashby bets.

Hankins folds and shows {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}.

Ashby casually flips over {4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}.

He's here to play, boys.

PokerNews Video: WSOP Day 1 - Press Conference and Field Update

This morning, World Series of Poker and official WSOPE sponsor Betfair held a press conference at a nearby movie theatre. Jeffrey Pollack and some officials from Betfair addressed the media, and then Phil Hellmuth and David 'Devilfish' Ulliott were brought on stage to answer questions about the World Series of Poker and provide some friendly trash-talk.

Spacial Limitations

Shortly after he busted out of the £2,500 HORSE event, Marcel Luske stopped by the bar which also happens to be where Poker News live update team is set up. The Flying Dutchman mentioned that he was not pleased with the lack of available playing space. He was very cramped at his table especially after four other players ordered massages and they had to squeeze in massage therapists into the already narrow aisles.

Today's event had to be spread out over two different floors in the casino and the poker room has very limited access for personnel, tournament staff, and the media. Due to tiny size of the poker room, the area is off limits to spectators.

Different Tables; Different Games

Each table is playing at their own pace. The betting limits are the same (at the moment they are 100/200) but each table is playing at a different speed.

For example, Doyle Brunson's table (which includes Jesus Ferguson and Kenny Tran) is playing Razz.

John Juanda's table (including Michael Binger) is playing Omaha 8.

Gus Hansen's table (including ZeeJustin and Allen Cunningham) is playing Seven-card Stud.
