Greetings from the Fifty!

We're at the very posh Fifty Casino on St. James' Street where in about forty minutes time, Day 1A of the WSOPE Main Event will get underway. Due to space constraints and the sheer number of entries, players will be spread across three casinos for Day 1 play-- the Empire, the Sportsman, and here at the Fifty.

Stay tuned to Poker News for live updates, chip counts, photos and video coverage of all your favorite pros who have put up £10,000 (that's $20,000 U.S. or €14,700!) to take part in this historic event.

We're here at the brand new Empire Casino in the heart of London in the middle of the ever active Leicester Square. The venue is a hive of activity as the camera crews prepare for the days proceedings. Phil Hellmuth is seated at the televised feature table, and we will be keeping you updated on all the action as it unfolds.

Stay tuned...........

Live from The Sportsman

Here in the elegant surroundings of the Sportsman Casino in Marble Arch, several white lights have been set up dispelling the warm orange glow from the circular chandeliers and replacing it with the kind of light you're not going to misread your hand by. Nine tables have been set up in here, and the players have just been granted entrance for some pre-play milling around. Keep up with the action live and direct, starting in five minutes or so.

WSOPE Bracelet Winner Thomas Bihl Eliminated by Quads

From the floor of the Empire Casino...

On the third hand of the tournament, there was a three-way pot and one of the first eliminations of the main event.

Sarah Taylor limped from UTG. William Thorson called. Thomas Bihl raised to 1,200. Taylor called as did Thorson. The flop was {9-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}. Taylor bet out of position and was told to take her bet back. Thomas Bihl checked. Taylor then bet 1,000. Thorson called. Bihl check-raised to 6,000. Taylor and Thorson called. The turn was the {6-Hearts}. Bihl checked. Taylor bet 8,000. Thorson folded and Bihl went into the tank for a minute before he check-raised all in. Taylor quickly called.

Taylor: {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}
Bihl: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

Bihl was drawing dead as the dealer put out a meaningless {5-Hearts} on the river. Bihl headed to the rail as Taylor dragged the pot and jumped out to an early chiplead.

Thomas Bihl won a bracelet two days ago for his first place victory in the £2,500 HORSE event.

Tough Tables

THE FIFTY-- Table 15 seems to be the toughest draw over here at the Fifty, stacked with Gus Hansen, Farzad Bonyadi, Brandon Adams, Liz Lieu, and John Juanda. Table 16 has not one, but two World Champions in Noel Furlong (1999) and Greg Raymer (2004), along with recent bracelet winner Jeffrey Lisandro ensconced in the 8 seat. Table 18 is no picnic either, with bracelet winner Robert Mizrachi, £2,500 H.O.R.S.E. final tabler Gary "The Choirboy" Jones, Thierry Van den Berg, and top French player Pascal Perrault.

The course of play today.......

Due to the nature of the Casino business in the United Kingdom (a series of smaller clubs as opposed to the larger properties in the US), this event is being hosted in three separate venues - The Empire Casino, The Fifty and The Sportsman.

Word just in from Tournament Director Jack Effel is that the players will play 4x 2hr levels.
