Davood Mehrmand Eliminated

Davood Mehrmand, he of the boisterous personality and lively table talk has been silenced.

Mehrmand had the misfortune of taking his {A-Clubs} {J-Clubs} to war with Daniel Negreanu's {K-Spades} {K-Clubs}. The money went in on the {9-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {2-Spades} flop. The {4-Clubs} and the {10-Hearts} that followed were no help to Mehrmand and he hit the rail with about seven minutes to play before we wrap for the day.

Football Match Proves Too Tempting

On the turn of a {6-Diamonds} {4-Spades} {K-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} board, Brian Johnson check-raised Henrik Gwinner all in. Gwinner, having committed most of his stack, muttered something along the lines of having tickets to see the Chelsea vs. Manchester United match on Sunday, and how he'd rather go to that than try to negotiate the last few minutes of the level with a short stack. He called all in with {A-?} {J-Clubs} against Johnson's {4-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}, which tripped up on the {4-Clubs} river even though it wasn't needed.

Day 1a Concludes, Action Resumes Tomorrow at 1 p.m. (GMT+1)

Bag 'em and tag 'em boys, Day 1a is in the books, with approximately 46 of today's 191 starters remaining in the tournament. David La Ronde appears to still be at or near the chip lead with Jason Gray, Yevgeniy Timoshenko, Daniel Negreanu and Brandon Cantu not far behind.

Official chip counts will be posted as soon as they become available, which we're told will not be too long from now.

Join us again tomorrow for all the action from the floor of the Empire Casino in London, where a sellout crowd is expected for Day 1b of this £1,500 No-Limit Hold'em tournament.

Until then, good night and good luck from London!
