Raul Paez Eliminated in 11th Place (£6,188)

A raul blow for Paez
A raul blow for Paez
Omaha 8:

One man who wishes he'd taken the lie-in is Raul Paez. On the very first hand of the day, and with two players yet to arrive, Paez made it 8,000 from the button with {10-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Howard Lederer made the call in the big blind with {7-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades}.

Confusion entailed on the {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop as the dealer assumed both players had checked. "I didn't check," claimed the Professor. "I looked at my cards, but I didn't check."

Without too much debate, the dealer brought play back and Lederer led for 4,000. Paez made the call.

On the {4-Clubs} turn, Lederer asked how much his Paez had left (5,500 was the reply) and duly put his man all in. Paez made the inevitable call.

Although the {J-Diamonds} river caused yet more confusion as both players initially believed it was a chop chop, Lederer spotted he had a low and ultimately scooped the pot.
