Mid-Break Rant

"I've got 1,000," reported Dave 'El Blondie' Colclough. "I haven't been over my starting stack for three hours. It's been water torture. It's ridiculous though and I can't believe they only give us 3,000 for a tournament like this. I can't wait to get back to the cash games; these tournaments are too stressful on the bankroll. You only need to lose one pot and then you can't play. I can understand it in Vegas where you have three events in a day, but not here."

Get in Cheap

The Empire Casino have asked me to alert readers to a £30 rebuy satellite here on Sunday, Sep 20 at 3pm. This will earn you entry into the £750 Main Event satellite on Sep 25. Good luck to all those who decide to give it a shot.

Jesus Claims Another Soul

Wow, the big names are beginning to really amass all the big stacks here.

Chris Ferguson, already a fairly big stack, just now knocked out another player to propel him into the chip lead on 15,500.

The luckless soon-to-be-bustee moved in with {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} on a {3-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} flop, but Ferguson called him with just {A-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}. The turn brought the {4-Hearts} and the river the {10-Hearts}, and with no flushes for his opponent, Ferguson took the pot.

Tournament director Jack Effel arrived to take the seat card from the dealer. "Hold up," he said to the table, "I'll try to find you some more victims..."

Tricky Decision for Trickett

It's all action up at Sam Trickett's table. Fellow young British circuit regular Adam Latimer seems to have busted out, and his seat is now being occupied by Jeff Lisandro instead.

Just now Trickett's stack took a bit of a denting, after he got as far as the turn of a {4-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} board. With almost 4,000 in the pot already, he bet out 1,425 from the under-the-gun position only to be met with a raise to 3,000 from his opponent.

Trickett thought about it for an awfully long time. Eventually he piped up, "Show me your cards if I fold?" His giggling opponent, apparently having a marvellous time, agreed. Nevertheless Trickett disappeared back into the tank for some more minutes.

"Fifteen-seventy-five," the dealer reminded him.

"Gamble," advised his cheerful opponent.

Jeff Lisandro appeared to have gone to sleep.

Eventually Trickett folded. And duly, his opponent showed him the {8-Clubs} for trips. Trickett triumphantly showed him his folded pocket aces, and is merely down to 4,000 instead of busto.

Garfield Claws His Way Back

In two shakes of a lamb's tail, Robert Garfield has gone from just a couple of thousand to over 6,500. "After folding a load of small pairs," he regaled, "I decided to call a raise with 2-2, and hit a set. I then raised it up with Q-Q, and another guy reraised. I pushed and he had to call with T-T."
