Erik Fried

Having limped under-the-gun with aces, Roberto Romanello was relieved to see Erik Friberg raise it up for the big blind after the whole world had limped behind. Not wanting to mess around, Romanello potted and all the chips went in, Romanello's bullets holding up to knock the Swede out.

Andy Bloch Eliminated

A flop of {9-Hearts} {2-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} made it all happen - Andy Bloch betting out, getting raised by his neighbour, and moving all in. He was called with what I gather was a set, because at this exact time a very tall person stepped right in front of me and stayed there during the excitement of the on-their-backs phase while I nipped right and left like a startled meerkat but to no avail.

What I'm trying to say is: Andy Bloch's hand was {J-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {8-Clubs} which made a straight on the {J-Diamonds} turn, only for it to be made into a losing hand by the pairing river {10-Clubs} .

Romanelloads of Chips

Roberto Romanello just busted a fellow in the big blind, after somehow getting to fourbet on the button with {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {8-Hearts} (total 10,500), get called and then shoved on when the flop came down {Q-Clubs} {2-Spades} {4-Diamonds} for about 10k again. He made the call immediately, saw the turn and river run out {3-Diamonds} {A-Hearts} and then scooped in the pot which bumped his stack up over the 64k mark. I only caught a glimpse of the bustee's hand - which looked a lot like {K-?} {Q-?} {9-?} {7-?}, although I wouldn't swear on it.

For someone not in the Nook of Big Stacks (see below) he's in pretty good shape chipwise. Here are some other selected counts from the area:

Karl Mahrenholz - 23,000
Howard Lederer - 46,000
Jules Adamson - 7,000
Sorel Mizzi - 9,200
Bruno Fitoussi - 28,000
Jani Sointula - 33,000
Juha Helppi - 48,000
Ross Boatman - 19,000
John Kabbaj - 50,000
Julian Gardner - 13,600
Chad Brown - 18,200
Barry Greenstein - 45,000

Chipped Up Action Table Typically Hardest to Spot

It took Dave Shallow pointing in the rough direction of a dead-end sort of nook to notice his stack was well up among the chip leaders', not to mention the rest of his table was either stacked or action-packed or both - it's one of those all-the-chips tables where big stacks move and have the chance to become huge stacks. Here are two thirds of them:

Dave Shallow - 70,000
Devilfish - 12,000
Jeff Kimber - 82,000
Tony Bloom - 68,100
Dave Callaghan - 60,000
Antony Lellouche - 13,600

Double K.O.

It's a triumphant ring of the bell for Sampo Lopponen as he delivered a left jab into the Gus Hansen jaw (isn't he meant to be good at this!), then a right hook into the gut of Andy Black for a double K.O. Hansen mucked too quickly for my little paws to scurry across my pad, but the board read {3-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Black exited with {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} versus Lopponen's {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}.

Lopponen now has 65,000, and looks to be pipping Roberto Romanello by a gnat's pubic hair for the honour of current chip leader.

Taking a Shot

When I was a wee nipper in the upper tier of the Holte End, I used to sing "Tony Cascarino in the air", but today I'd be singing "Tony Cascarino has air" as he the former International footballer goes crashing out against not one, but two pairs of aces.

It was actually Cascarino who kicked off the action, raising with {10-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{8-Spades}{K-Spades}. After a raise and an all in behind, he decided to take a gamble at a monster pot, and at least hope his suits were alive. Unfotunately, they were dead as an decapitated dodo as his opponents revealed {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{A-Clubs}.

Although the {Q-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} flop, and then the {7-Spades} turn threatened a sneaky straight, the {3-Spades} river was a blank and aces held to chop it up. There a slight kafuffle as the pot was being organised with players dipping their hands into the pot uninvited and others roaring when an error was being made, but the dealer remain composed - despite having several people shouting at him at once - to allocate the players the correct pots.

Sadly, Cascarino received the smallest, and now has just 875 left.

Annette Loss

Hovering in the 12-16k zone for a level or so, Annette Obrestad just played her last Omaha hand. It appeared she'd raised preflop and picked up two callers, from the size of the pot and the 6k bet in front of her on a {2-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {4-Hearts} flop. The short stack to her immediate left was considering whether or not to call all-in, and another player lurked behind on the button.

Eventually Short-stack called, and Button moved in, prompting a threeway on-their-backs moment:

Obrestad: {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} {A-Spades} {6-Spades}
Short stack: {Q-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {7-Spades} {6-Clubs}
Button(covering them both): {A-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {3-Clubs} {7-Diamonds}

The button's flopped two pair became a house on the {7-Hearts} turn, and there were no miracles provided by the {10-Spades} river for either of the all-in players. That made that a double bust-out and brought another table break at the field reaching 90 players.

Dalby Takes a Hit

Eric Dalby snap-called a short-stacks push for 11,000 on a {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}. Dalby had his nose in front with {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} versus {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, but the river came the {8-Spades} to steal the pot away. Considering Dalby still has 38,000, this would have left him challenging for the chip lead.
