Andrey Zaichenko First Casher

Which is a nice way of saying: first out from the final two tables. He committed his stack preflop by threebetting button raiser Daniel Hindin. Hindin thought for a while, aware that the last 20k of Zaichenko was going in no matter what...but then he made the call.

Flop: {J-Hearts} {2-Hearts} {K-Hearts} . In went the rest from the small blind, snap went the call. Zaichenko had {A-Diamonds} {K-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {5-Spades} , or something very like it (I was behind a newly-interested crowd at the time) but Hindin had flopped a Queen-high flush which held to bust him. At least he gets over £11k, which is a whole lot more than 19th place.

Lopponen Out, Jani Over the Vil-Moonen (17th Place, £11,034)

Aarno Kiveilo limped in early position and Jani Vilmunen raised from the hijack. Sampo Lopponen in the small blind, however, reraised pot, leaving himself a mere 10,000 back. Kiveilo passed, Vilmunen stuck in enough to put Lopponen all in, Lopponen made the obvious call, and they flipped their cards.

Lopponen: {Q-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {10-Spades} {8-Hearts}
Vilmunen: having some lovely cards today, this time {A-Diamonds} {A-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {Q-Spades}

Board: {4-Spades} {2-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {9-Spades} {2-Hearts}

Thus Lopponen enjoys his second WSOPE cash of the week, while Vilmunen is now obscene chip leader on 580,000.

Three Players Now Drinking, Williamson Most Enthusiastic

Things on Table 2 seem to be getting a little bit more fun, as Tony Bloom, Robert Williamson III and Tom Dwan are now sharing a bottle of red.

"I have half a glass of wine before dinner," Bloom was saying as they all toasted each other most jovially. "Then a glass during, then two glasses after..."

"Ah," said Williamson, "You see, I like to have a bottle before dinner, then two bottles during..."

Dwan, on the other hand, is alternating sips of wine with sips from a cup of herbal tea.

Griffin Bests Romanello

Ashton Griffin in the big blind position bet out 16,000 from the big blind position, and ROberto Romanello called to see a {10-Hearts} river, which both players checked.

For some reason Griffin didn't really want to show his hand but was informed that he had to; eventually he turned over {A-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {8-Hearts} for the straight. It was good enough to beat Romanello however -- the Welshman just mucked and was down to 100,000, while Griffin moved on up to 240,000.

16th Place Goes to Lloyd Rees (and £11,034)

In a dramatic hand which started as a sixway limpfest and ended with the possibility for two of the biggest stacks to clash, Lloyd Rees was the one caught in the middle and eventually busted. Many players saw a {J-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Hearts} flop, but it was Ville Haavisto who bet first - 16k. Over to Rees, who shipped in the whole of his stack (only 34,500) and then looked back at Haavisto.

However, his left hand side neighbour was none other than Jani Vilmunen, who tanked and then counted out the call. This clearly wasn't part of the plan for Haavisto, who threw his hand away.

Rees had flopped the nut flush draw with {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {K-?} {5-?} but Vilmunen held {7-?} {7-?} {9-?} {5-?} which turned into a house with a rivered Jack.

Lederer Raising Mechanism: Activated

Howard Lederer has flicked the aggression switch, and was spotted raising two hands in a row.

The first time he raised from the cutoff and Ashton Griffin and Chris Bjorin in the blinds both called. They checked the {6-Hearts} {2-Clubs} {K-Spades} flop, though, and Lederer took it down with a 20,000 bet.

The next hand Lederer raised again and Ashton Griffin called again, this time in position on the button. The two proceeded to cagily check down the {Q-Spades} {5-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {J-Spades} board, though, and Lederer showed an actual hand comprising two kings and a couple less relevant cards with them, and Griffin just mucked.

Kimber Doubles Through Vilmunen

Jani Vilmunen raised from the cutoff, and Jeff "Jaffacake" Kimber on the button and Tony Bloom in the small blind both called to a {9-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {J-Clubs} flop, which all three checked.

The turn came down the {2-Diamonds} and Bloom checked again. Vilmunen now bet out 32,000 -- only for Kimber to raise pot (136,000), leaving himself just shrapnel behind. Bloom was delighted to get out of their way, Vilmunen made the reraise, Kimber made the all-in call, and they were on their backs.

Vilmunen: {K-Clubs} {K-Spades} {7-Spades} {5-Hearts} (does he ever not have a hand?) for trip kings
Kimber: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades} for the straight

River: {5-Spades}

Kimber doubles to 310,000, Vilmunen drops to 480,000.

Lederer Takes Down Big Threeway Pot

Preflop, Howard Lederer raised to 12k, called by Ashman Griffin. Over to button Chris Bjorin, who calmly reraised a further 42k. He may not have been expecting both Lederer and Griffin to call him, but they did, and the flop came {8-Spades} {7-Spades} {10-Clubs} . Like payday, it was checks all round.

The turn was the {K-Diamonds} and Lederer, first to act, checked no more. He bet what looked a lot like 160k and would have put Bjorin all-in and seriously crippled Griffin if he called and lost... both players gave it some thought but in the end Lederer took it down there on the turn.
