Shulman Gets Serious

We picked up the action on the turn of the {10-Spades} {2-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} board, with Negreanu check-calling 400,000 from Shulman.

Negreanu checked the {2-Diamonds} river too, and Shulman stood up. He announced all in. Negreanu, with just over 3 million behind, gave it some thought -- but after a moment he passed, and we continue.

Negreanu Evens It Up

Daniel Negreanu called Barry Shulman's raise in the big blind (200k total) and then bet out 250k on a {2-Spades} {A-Hearts} {2-Clubs} flop. Shulman made the call.

The turn: {Q-Clubs} Now Negreanu check-called a 400k bet from Shulman.

The river: {5-Hearts} It seemed that Negreanu just immediately turned his hand over, but there must have been some speedy checking here - his {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} wins him that tidy pot and brings him up to around 4.4 million compared to Shulman's 5.6.

It's Very Late and Everyone's Tired

Negreanu check-called 300,000 from Shulman on the {7-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {2-Spades} flop, before betting out 300,000 on the {K-Diamonds} turn. Shulman called.

Negreanu checked the {5-Spades} river, and when Shulman bet 500,000, Negreanu pointed two fingers to his face and made the universal gesture of shooting oneself in the head. He folded.

"Someone misread their hand," he said quite cheerfully considering, and raised his hand to own up. It's cost him a little -- he's back down to 3.8 million.

Three In a Row for Shulman

1) Walk for him (Hey, 50k is 50k).

2) Negreanu limps on the button; Shulman checks but wins the pot by betting out on the {6-Spades} {5-Hearts} {2-Hearts} flop.

3) Shulman makes it 200k on the button; call. Again, Shulman bet the flop, this time {K-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {8-Hearts} to take it down.

These are really small pots comparative to how stacks were flying all over the shop in the middle of the day, but they all add up.

Aces... Again

Shulman raised, and Negreanu reraised. Call.

They saw a {10-Spades} {K-Spades} {10-Clubs} flop and Negreanu bet out 600,000. Call.

They saw a {Q-Diamonds} turn, too, and this time Negreanu moved all in. After a moment Shulman passed -- and Negreanu showed him {A-Spades} {A-Diamonds}. That's the third time Negreanu's had aces since we've been heads up. Or the third time he's shown them, at least.

And with that, we're back to more or less even.

Nearly a Million Changes Hands

...And it looked like it was heading for even giddier pot sizes as the flop saw Barry Shulman check-raise Daniel Negreanu on a flop of {5-Spades} {3-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} to 600k. Negreanu made the call - and then checked down the turn and river which came {10-Spades} {K-Spades} . A {Q-Diamonds} -rag combo was the winning hand, scooping Shulman a chunky pot as the clock turns 4am straight.

Shulman's got himself a big old cup of coffee. Good move.

Negreanu Moves All In, Room Holds Its Breath

The flop which got the action was a surprisingly non-threatening looking {Q-Clubs} {2-Spades} {4-Diamonds} . 400k was stacked in front of Shulman and button Negreanu was thinking about what to do about that. Suddenly he announced he was all in, and a Mexican Wave style "Ooooh," filtered around the room. But Shulman passed, handed the pot over, and play continues apace.
