With around 8,000 in the pot and a flop of , Henri Chapuis bet 7,500 and put the pressure on Ron Azor, who moved all in after a few moment's worth of thought. Chapuis quickly called off the 10,000 or so he had behind and tabled , which was behind the of Azor.
The dealer proceeded to burn and turn the , which was a dagger through Azor's heart as it gave Chapuis a wheel. Azor needed a three on the river just to chop, but it wasn't in the cards as the peeled off.
We caught the action on the river with about 15,000 in the pot and a board reading . Duncan Mouche had checked and opened the door for Greg Merson to move all in for 10,350. Mouche thought long and hard before making the call, and Merson flipped over for ace high.
Mouche then tabled and the table seemed impressed with the call. Merson quietly collected his things and exited the tournament floor.
Greg Merson and John Monnette have enjoyed quite a bit of success in 2012. Both won a bracelet this past summer in Vegas, both are in contention in the WSOP Player of the Year race (Merson currently leads), and both are still alive in today's tournament.
In a recent hand, Renaud Blangiardi opened for 1,250 from early position only to have Monnette three-bet to 3,050 from the cutoff. Merson then four-bet all in from the button, Blangiardi folded and Monnette made a hesitant call.
Showdown
Merson:
Monnette:
Monnette was unhappy to see that he shared a nine with Merson, and rightfully so as his chances of winning were slim. The flop was dry for Monnette, while the turn left him drawing dead. The meaningless was put out on the river and Merson, who made the final table of the Main Event as is a member of the October Nine, received a double.
[Removed:163] was all in from early position and received a call from Casey Kastle, who was in late position.
Showdown
Sheikh:
Kastle:
Sheikh got it in with the best hand and things looked good through the flop, but not on the turn. Kastle had paired his king to take the lead, though Sheikh did pick up a flush draw. Unfortunately for him, it would not come in as the blanked on the river.
Meanwhile, Romain Derenemesnil has been eliminated from the tournament.
