Alvarado Picks Up Ladies

Action folded around to Vadzim Markushevski on the button and he raised to 11,000. JC Alvarado then moved all in for 59,000 from the small blind, and after the big folded, Markushevski made the call.

Showdown
Markushevski: {A-Spades}{9-Spades}
Alvarado: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

The {4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} flop gave Markushevski a pair of nine, but he needed even more help in order to eliminate Alvarado. The {J-Diamonds} turn wasn't good as it took away some of his outs, while the {6-Clubs} river blanked and gave Alvarado a much-needed double.

ElkY Doubles Through Conte

Action folded to Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier's button and he popped it up to 10,000. The small blind folded and Maxime Conte came over the top for 25,000. Grospellier called.

The dealer spread out a flop of {K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Hearts} and Conte checked. Grospellier bet 25,500 and Conte called. The {3-Hearts} hit the turn and Conte checked for a second time. Grospellier moved 50,500 into the middle and Conte replied by announcing that he was all in. ElkY called for his tournament life totaling 161,500.

Grospellier: {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}
Conte: {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades}

Grospellier was ahead with his set and stayed that way as the river bricked out. He's now sitting on 424,000 in chips.

Cardyn Couldn't Decide

Sometimes you run into hands that take longer than expected, and Nicolas Cardyn just played one of those.

The board read {9-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts} when Axel Pergolizzi check-called a 23,500-chip bet from Cardyn. On the river the {10-Clubs} hit and Pergolizzi checked again. Cardyn bet 54,500 and Pergolizzi put his opponent all in.

Cardyn stared Pergolizzi down like never before, and he even looked for tells in his breathing and his neck. It was almost too obvious what Cardyn was doing as he even checked under the table if Pergolizzi's feet were calm.

After about seven minutes Cardyn folded, and Pergolizzi mucked his cards face down. Cardyn was knocked down while Pergolizzi has a very big stack to work with.

Conte: {K-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Dannenmann: {A-Spades}{J-Clubs}

Dannenmann grabbed hold of the lead on the {10-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop and did not let go as the {5-Clubs} turned and the {6-Spades} rivered. Dannenmann is now sitting on about 230,000.

Fox's Bid at Back-to-Back Championships Comes to an End

Elio Fox
Elio Fox

In the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event, a young man from New York by the name of Elio Fox outlasted a field of 593 players to win €1,400,000 and his first bracelet. Fox returned to Cannes this year looking to defend his title, and while he made a good run at it, that bid was just cut short.

In what would be his last hand, action folded around to Jason Mercier on the button and he raised to 10,000. Fox then moved all in for approximately 80,000 from the big blind and Mercier made the call.

Showdown
Mercier: {A-}{Q-}
Fox: {A-}{8-}

Both players held an ace, but Mercier had the better kicker. That's what ended up making the difference as the board ran out {5-}{5-}{2-}{K-}{7-} and Fox followed up last year's win with a 39th-place finish for €21,250.

Benyamine Beats a Bluff

Kyle Julius just raised to 10,500 and both Curt Kohlberg and David Benyamine called. The flop came down {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and all three players checked.

On the turn the {7-Clubs} hit and Benyamine bet 14,500. Julius folded and Kohlberg made the call.

The river brought out the {9-Hearts} and Benyamine bet 27,000. Kohlberg went into the tank for quite some time before eventually raising to 65,000. Benyamine called rather quickly and Kohlberg turned over {10-Spades}{9-Spades}. Benyamine showed {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, and took down the pot with a straight.

"I only beat a bluff," Benyamine sighed as he started stacking his new chips. He climbs up some more while Kohlberg is still doing great.
