Ramming It Home

Ram Vaswani
Ram Vaswani

Jim Collopy opened to 20,000 on the button but Ram Vaswani made it 70,000. Collopy paused for just a moment, expressionless, before making the call.

Seconds later they were looking at a {10-Clubs}{k-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop and Vaswani was betting out 65,000. Another moment of blank pause from Collopy, and then another call.

Vaswani checked the {a-Spades} turn and Collopy checked behind, but upon the {2-Diamonds} river Vaswani bet out 150,000. One more moment of thought for Collopy, but this time he folded.

The stacks in that match are now Vaswani 1,230,000, Collopy 690,000.

"I just want to be like Ram"....

said Gus Hansen after raising to get Andrew Feldman off a hand. There was 66,000 in the pot before the flop which pointed to a Hansen call, Feldman raise and call. The flop was {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{3-Hearts} and Feldman led for 42,000 only to be raised up to 119,000 by Hansen. Feldman tank-folded. Hansen has a 200,000 chip advantage over Feldman right now.

BigQueso Shrinking

Jim Collopy
Jim Collopy

Further woe for the Queso, as he bet 28,000 into a 40,000 pot on the turn of a {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{a-Clubs} board. Ram Vaswani made the call.

The river was the {j-Hearts} and this time Vaswani bet out to the tune of 60,000. Collopy's face remained unchanged as he folded, but he must be feeling something behind his sunglasses - he's down to around 600,000 against Vaswani's 1.3 million now.

Big Sigh from Feldman

Andrew Feldman raised from the button and Hansen called to see a {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop. Feldman continued with a 36,000 bet that Hansen called before they both checked the {3-Spades} turn. The river came {k-Diamonds} and Hansen thought for a good while whether to bet or not, shuffling his chips in his own distinctive way before he checked. Feldman thought for a good while too and checked as well. Hansen tabled {k-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a rivered pair of kings. Feldman let out a big sigh put his hands on his head and then folded. Hansen up to 1.2 million now to Feldman's 700k.

No Joy Yet for Collopy

Jim Collopy scraped back a few chips but then lost another pot to leave him at 600,000 or so.

Collopy made it 25,000 from the button and got a call from Ram Vaswani before they both checked the {q-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop. Vaswani bet out a minimum 10,000 on the {q-Hearts} turn, though. Collopy made the call.

They saw a {a-Clubs} river and Vaswani now bet out 25,000. Collopy looked at his hole cards again, and decided he liked them enough to call - but mucked to Vaswani's {k-Spades}{3-Hearts} for the two pair on the board with a king kicker.

How Did the Pot Stay So Small?

Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen

The flop was already out as {k-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs} between Andrew Felman and Gus Hansen and Feldman led for 42,000 from the BB. Hansen called before both checked the {10-Diamonds} turn. The river came {q-Clubs} and Feldman led for 83,000. Call.

The young Brit confidently tabled {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} but was shocked and said "Sicko" when Hansen tabled {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}. Hansen up to 1.35 million now.

Short Stacks Gets Shorter

There was already 120,000 in the pot when Andrew Feldman checked the turn of the {8-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts} board. Gus Hansen bet 77,000, and Feldman folded. His baseball cap came off briefly as he shook his head and attempted to refocus.

Feldman is down to 435,000 against Hansen's 1.485 million, and although there's actually a lot of play left with the blinds at 5,000/10,000, it's got to be demoralising to be at a 3:1 chip disadvantage at this stage.

Over at the other end of the table, Jim Collopy isn't faring much better - we just saw him open to 25,000 on the button only to fold to a reraise to 85,000 from Ram Vaswani. Collopy is still below 600,000.

Collopy a Half Millionaire

The title sounds good, doesn't it? Well it's not so good for Jim Collopy as he's down to that amount from his 960,000 starting stack. Vaswani just snatched another pot off him to put him down to this mark. Vaswani raised to 25,000 and Collopy called to see the {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Diamonds} flop. Vaswani continued with a 33,000 bet. Call. Both checked the {6-Spades} turn before Collopy check-folded to a 25,000 river bet.
