Matt Matros topped 150,000 in chips in opening-day actionOfficial Chip Counts Released; 71 Players Remain
The overnight official chip counts released by the WSOP show that 71 players have survived into Day 2 play. The list is topped by Matt Matros, who finished the opening session at 156,600. Rep Porter, Thomas Fuller and Peter Marr each also topped 100,000 chips in first-day action.

Day One is in the Books
After ten levels of tournament poker, play has finally concluded for the evening. What started as 1,236 players on 206 tables spread out from the Amazon Room, to the Tropical Room, all the way to the Rio Poker Room on the other side of the property, has been reduced to just 72 players on 12 tables occupying only a small portion of one corner of the Amazon Room.
The rate of eliminations was rapid. The short-handed format had players involved in a lot more pots, finding their edge, and capitalizing on it when they could. Unfortuanately, it didn't always work out for most of them. We said goodbye to 1,164 players today and tomorrow we'll leave behind 63 more.
It appears that Matt Matros is our probable chip leader with about 153,000. Thomas Fuller is not far behind however with roughly 150,000. Official chip counts will be posted when they are made available.
Join us as 2:00 pm PDT as action resumes and the field is narrowed down to the final nine players that will comprise Saturday's final table. -

Girl Power
Of the 1,236 entrants who started the day, only two females remain. They are Laura Kallen Wakeland who is working with a 60,000 chip stack, and Stephanie Klempner who, after just taking a bit of a hit, is down to only 20,000.

Hamby Doubles
From the cutoff, Jared Hamby moved all in for 15,000. It folded through the blind back to the under-the-gun player, who Hamby did not realize had limped in. That player called the raise, and Hamby immediately knew he was in big trouble.

Peter Marr Keeps on Stacking
Action folded to the cutoff seat who raised to 3,200. Peter Marr reraised to 10,500 and the cutoff shoved all in for 25,000. Marr made the call and showed
. He quickly found out he was behind when the cutoff showed

The flop came
. Marr, perhaps ashamed to come from behind, said, "I thought you were making a run at it...I'm sorry." To add insult to injury, the 
came off on the turn. The river was meaningless and the eliminated player left with class. Marr chips up to about 86,000. -

Porter Movin' on Up
Few who have tangled with Rep Porter today have emerged unscathed. The small blind in this hand paid the price after limping in, and then raising a Porter raise from 3,000 to 36,000 all in. Porter made the call and tabled
