Day 1a Completed

Day 1a is Done!

Xen Xenofontos is the chipleader of Day 1A
Xen Xenofontos is the chipleader of Day 1A
That will be a wrap for day 1A of the Aussie Millions Opening Event. It's always an exciting time to be in Melbourne and today possibly took it to another level.

With the schedule clash between the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure and the Aussie Millions rectified, many of the bigger names have been able to participate in the opening event.

The field included Eric Assadourian, Emad Tahtouh, Tony Hachem, Jonathan Karamalikis, Matthew Pearson, "Toothpick Tony", James Broom, Dave Lee, Mitch Carle, Ben Delaney and Dean Nyberg.

The DeucesCracked crew led by Jay Rosenkrantz and Vanessa Selbst were out in force, along with Amanda De Cesare and Josh Budin of "The Poker Star" fame.

In the end a man, nicknamed Mr X for ease of communication, seized the day. His real name - Xen Xenofontos - sits with a mammoth 186,300. His closest rivals are experienced players Chris Chronis (147,600) and Tony Hachem (136,600).

In all 51 players made it through day 1A leaving 276 players available to return for the repecharge flight, along with the players eliminated tomorrow and any direct buy-ins. It leaves Crown well on target for their aim of a million dollar prize pool.

Join the PokerNews crew for all the action of Day 1B of the opening event from 12:30pm tomorrow.

Xenofontos Loses Some of his Lead

There are a mountain of chips in front of Xen Xenofontos at the moment, but he felt the need to share of his wealth in one of the last pots of the night.

Preflop an early position player opened to 6,500 and got calls from middle position, Xenofontos in the cutoff and the big blind.

Four handed to the {2-Hearts}{a-Spades}{8-Hearts} flop all the players checked to the {5-Hearts} turn.

On the flop the big blind fired 12,500 with only Xenofontos calling. The river {j-Spades} saw the big blind lead out 25,000 with Xenofontos again flat calling.

Xenofontos tabled his {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for a pair of fives, unable to beat out the big blind's {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.

He still has a comfortable lead at the top of the day 1a counts.

Bizzare Late Business

Brad Fry just took a pot in interesting circumstances.

After a short-stacked opponent moved all in holding {8-?}{5-?}, Rawiller announced call before flipping over his {A-?}{J-?}.

The dealer thought he had open folded, so tossed his cards into the muck. Fry protested and called for the floor.

After confirming from multiple players that he had indeed called the tournament director allowed the hand proceed.

Fry held up, and managed to drag a pot without cards in front of him.

Jim Sachinidis Caught

Things didn't go to plan for Jim Sachinidis to the tune of 48,000 recently.

With three-way action on a {5-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} flop an early position player checked to Sachinidis who fired out 12,000. Frank Pezzaniti made the call from late position, with the other player folding.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and Sachinidis bet out 40,000 with Pezzaniti moving all in for another 8,000 on top. Sachindis made the committed call, glumly tabling {j-Spades}{8-Hearts} for just a gutshot straight draw.

Pezzaniti had {9-Spades}{8-Clubs} for top pair and a gutshot draw of his own.

The hand dropped Sachinidis to 23,000 and he just past the media desk making a hasty exit, so we'll assume those chips no longer belong to him either.

Moussa Crippled By Danielsson

Chuck Danielsson has moved up to 78,000 in a sizeable hand against George Moussa.

The chips went into the pot preflop, with Moussa's {6-Hearts}{6-Spades} needing to fade the outs of Danielsson's {A-Diamonds}{q-Spades}.

Unfortunately for Moussa, he would prove unsuccessful at this task with a {5-Spades}{q-Clubs}{2-Spades} flop giving Danielsson the advantage.

The {9-Spades} turn and {k-Spades} river would make both players a flush, with Danielsson's {Q-Spades} giving him the pot and leaving Moussa with one foot out the door.

Emad Tahtouh Out

Tahtouh will be back on the repecharge day
Tahtouh will be back on the repecharge day
It's all over for Emad Tahtouh. His final hand of the night would pit his {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} against Karib Karib's {A-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

The {a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} flop would virtually have Tahtouh out the door, and once the board completed {10-Clubs} turn and {6-Diamonds} river he would be out.

Karib moves over 36,000.

Flop Nuts on Everyone

Jarred 'FlopNutsOnYou' Graham has continued his recent rampage. Graham opened to 4,500, and Craig Elfenbein moved all in over the top for 19,600 total. Graham called and the players tabled their cards.

Graham: {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}
Elfenbein: {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Graham proved he can't miss right now, with the {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} flop, hitting a straight off the bat. He'd have to sweat the final two streets though.

The turn {5-Clubs} and river {4-Diamonds} completed the board, missing Elfenbein's flush outs and moving Graham over 110,000 in chips.

Hash Gets More Cash, Mobbs Mobbed

Tony Hachem and Marek Kolk found themselves with all their money in the middle preflop; Kolk had {J-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} but Hachem had him dominated with {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}.

The board was spread {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Kolk was cut out.

Pete Mobbs was not so lucky - he was at the wrong end of your standard "ran kings into aces all-in-pre" situation - neither hand improved and Mobbs is gone.
