Aussie Millions Main Event

Day 1c Completed

Lam Tops Day 1c with Ivey Lurking

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Day 1c of the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event has come and gone. After a full seven levels of play and plenty of magnificent poker action, the field of 317 runners that came out for the final starting flight was cut down to under 150. Leading the way after bagging up 198,400 in chips was Robert Lam, but he's not the story of the day.

With most of the big guns waiting until the final starting day to get in on the action, Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier, Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Erik Seidel, Nam Le and Daniel Alaei were all in play. Ivey stormed out of the gates to the early chip lead and held onto the pole position for the better part of the day.

Once he got over 100,000 in chips, Ivey peaked around 175,000 before he began to bleed chips and drop back to about 85,000. From there, Ivey doubled in a massive clash with Australia's own Shane Warne and got right back to the top of the board. He went on to finish in what looks to be a top five stack on Day 1c with 184,000 in chips.

While Ivey thrived, Alaei, Hachem, Negreanu, Seidel and Le were all eliminated on the day and won't be going any further in this Main Event. Mercier had a rough day hanging around or below the starting stack of 30,000 for most of the time, but managed to win a good amount of chips with a diamond flush against Dan Smith before going on to finish with 61,600.

Other notables who bagged up some decent chips on Day 1c were Jason Koon, Michael Pedley, David Steicke, Melanie Weisner and Tino Lechich. They'll all be back here in Crown Casino's poker room on Wednesday starting at 12:30 PM local time to continue the quest. Registration will remain open until the first break tomorrow so even more players have the chance of hopping into the event. As it stands right now, the plan is to play six two-hour levels tomorrow, but that is all subject to change.

Leading the way with the overall chip lead into Day 2 is Brett Watson. He bagged up 257,400 on Day 1a.

Be sure to stay glued to the screen for another great day of poker down in the Aussie Millions Main Event. PokerNews will be happily providing you with updates all day long.

Face Off

Warne eliminated
Warne eliminated

The flop was {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and three players were in action. We're unclear as to how the action went exactly, but we can tell you that George Moussa was first to act followed by Shane Warne and then Phil Ivey. Moussa and Warne both had 10,500 in front of them and Ivey 5,000. Ivey was in the tank and, after a minute, reraised to 30,000 straight. It was now Moussa's turn to tank.

Moussa looked extremely pained and disturbed by the decision he was facing. He tanked for a little over three minutes and then finally folded his hand. Warne, on the other hand, didn't go anywhere. He committed his entire stack, shoving for 84,400. Ivey made the call.

Ivey tabled the {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for a flush and was against the {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} for Warne holding top set.

The turn card was safe for Ivey when the {3-Diamonds} fell and then the river completed the board with the {5-Hearts}. Ivey's flush held up and he was able to win the pot.

At the final count of the chips, it was actually Ivey who was all in on the flop of 84,100, just 300 chips less than Warne had. Warne was crushed to 300 and didn't even bother to sit back down in his chair.

On the next hand, Warne had to ante up 100 and then stuck his last 200 in dark from early position after the under-the-gun player raised to 2,000. A player behind Warne called and everyone else folded.

The flop came down {9-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{3-Clubs} and the original raiser bet 3,000. The other active player raised all in for 14,600 and his opponent folded. After scooping in the side pot, the player showed the {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs} for two overcards to the board and a flush draw. The all-in Warne held the {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

The turn brought the {J-Spades} and the river the {8-Hearts}. Warne's pair of eights weren't better than his opponent's pair of jacks and he was eliminated from the tournament.

Diamonds For Mercier

Jason Mercier opened the pot to 1,600 from middle position, and Dan Smith shot him an eye before coming along with the call from the big blind. Heads up, the two of them took a {10-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {K-Spades} flop, and Smith check-called another 1,200 from Mercier.

The turn {8-Diamonds} and river {3-Clubs} completed the board. Smith check-called 3,900 behind the turn, and Mercier fired the last bullet worth 10,800 on the river. Smith gave it a long look, cutting the call out from his stack and pump-faking a few times before finally dropping it into the pot.

Mercier tabled {9-Diamonds} {5-Diamonds}, and Smith read his hand: "Diamond flush? Nicely done."

Smith has been parted with a good chunk of his stack, down now to about 14,500.

Action folded to Phil Ivey on the button and he raised things up to 2,000. In the big blind was George Moussa and he called to see the flop come down {Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}. Moussa checked and Ivey fired a continuation bet worth 2,500. Moussa check-raised all in and it was a fairly big shove worth 39,100. Ivey thought for a minute or two and then committed the chips for the call to put Moussa at risk.

Moussa tabled the {A-Hearts}{5-Hearts} for a flush draw and straight draw. Ivey showed the best hand with the {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} for top pair, top kicker.

The turn was the {8-Spades} and kept Ivey in front. The river completed the board with the {6-Hearts} and Moussa spiked his flush to double up. He stormed away from the table in celebration and pumped his fists a few times. Ivey sent over the chips and slipped back to under 100,000 for the first time in a long while. Maybe he is human after all.

Weisner Wins

No shortage of inspiration for amazing titles here at the Aussie Millions, that's for sure. We are sticking to the facts and Melanie Weisner just keeps winning today. She missed out on a freeroll earlier when she lost the unicycle bet against Tony G (Video in the player to your right), but the Main Event is nothing short of a great succes so far.

Weisner just raised to 1,800 pre flop and got called by one player. The flop came down {4-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts} and Weisner bet 2,200 and got called again. On the turn the {J-Diamonds} hit and now she threw out 4,500. After getting called again the river was the {2-Spades}. She quickly took out 10,400 and threw them forward in the same motion as before. Her opponent gave it some thought be eventually tossed his cards into the muck.

Marcus Update

Van Marcus
Van Marcus

From the cutoff seat, a player opened to 2,000 and Van Marcus called from the big blind. The flop came down {K-Hearts}{6-Spades}{5-Hearts} and both players checked to see the {7-Spades} land on the turn. Marcus bet 3,200 and his opponent folded.

On the next hand, an under-the-gun player raised to 1,700, a middle-position player called and then Marcus called from the small blind. The flop came down {K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} and Marcus checked. The preflop raiser bet 2,700 and the next player folded. Marcus also gave it up and the winner showed the {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}.

After that, Marcus is sitting right about where he started with 30,000 in chips.
