2012-13 WSOP Circuit Harrah's Resort Atlantic City Day 2: Adam Teasdale Takes Lead To Final Day

Adam Teasdale

A long Day 2 at the WSOP Circuit Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City Main Event saw 337 players play their way down to just 26 by night’s end, with Adam Teasdale the overnight chip leader with 1,468,000 in chips. Aaron Overton ended as Teasdale’s nearest competitor with 1,040,000, and Brandon Fish was next in line with 1,016,000.

The first few hours of play saw the field rapidly trimmed to below 200, with Amanda Musumeci, Jared Jaffee, Cherish Andrews, Drazen Ilich, Matt Matros, Victor Ramdin, "Miami" John Cernuto, Doug Carli and Abraham Araya among the early eliminations. Also falling before the dinner break were start-of-day big stacks Tim Faro, T.J. Crews and Chris Klodnicki.

Meanwhile, Yung Hwang, Michiel Ros and Jamie Kerstetter each took turns atop the chip counts, with all three eventually being passed by Wade Woelfel, who became the first player to reach the 500,000-chip mark.

By the dinner break, the field had been cut to less than 90 players, and a couple of hours after play resumed, the money bubble finally burst with 63 left. After leading early on, Ros became the first player to cash by finishing in 63rd. Others earning small cashes between $3,000-$4,000 included Chris Reslock (58th), Avdo Djokovic (53rd), Justin Villa (50th), Michael Ruane (49th), David Diaz (46th), Roman Valerstein (44th), Zachary Hall (40th), Sumit Kumar (38th), and Joshua Pender (37th).

It was during that stretch that Brandon Fish pushed forward into the chip lead. Incidentally, by virtue of cashing in the Main Event, Fish — winner of Event 2 ($365 NLHE) this week — also nudged himself to the front in the WSOP Circuit Casino Champion race for Harrah's Resort Atlantic City (with two more events completing tomorrow that could also affect that outcome).

Among those getting in Fish's way during late-night chip accumulation was Kerstetter, who finally had to commit her short stack with the {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} versus the {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} of Fish. Kerstetter's hand was best through the {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop and {3-Diamonds} turn, but the {K-Diamonds} fell on the river and Kerstetter was knocked out in 34th place ($4,010). Following Kerstetter to the rail were Stan Jablonski (32nd) and Will Failla (31st).

Then came a huge hand between Teasdale and Ryan Moriarty. In that one, a three-bet from Moriarity got two callers including Teasdale; then the three players saw a flop come {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{10-Spades}. Moriarty led for 65,000 (about a third of the pot), and when Teasdale raised to 140,000, the third player stepped aside. Moriarty then tanked before reraising all in for just over half a million, and Teasdale called.

Teasdale had the {A-Spades}{J-Spades} for aces plus draws to both a flush and straight, while Moriarty had the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} for top two pair. The {8-Diamonds} turn kept Moriarty in front, but the {9-Diamonds} river made Teasdale a straight to knock Moriarty out in 29th ($5,128).

That was the hand that gave Teasdale the chip lead, which he kept as Michael Cologna (28th, $5,128) and Richard Austin (27th, $5,914) became the last eliminations of the night.
