Todd Smith Leads After Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series Bossier City

Todd Smith

Day 1a of the RunGood Poker Series (RGPS) Horseshoe Bossier City drew 133 entries, but after 12 levels of play just 28 remained with Todd Smith and his stack of 343,000 leading the pack.

In one of the last hands of the night in the latest RGPS Showbound $575 Main Event, the board read 875 when Eric Rivkin checked. The player in the cutoff bet 10,000 and Todd Smith raised to 30,000 on the button. Rivkin thought for a moment before raising to 85,000 and both players quickly went all in. Rivkin called.

Rivkin: 67
Smith: QQ
Player 3: 98

The turn was the A followed by the 10 on the river and Smith won the hand to eliminate one player and leave Rivkin very short. Smith was the first and only player to break 300,000 in the 1a flight, which was more than enough to give him the chip lead.

Run Good Ambassadors Chris Conrad and Ray Henson will be queuing up for the next flights after failing to make it through Day 1a. Meanwhile, LFG Podcast host Jamie Kerstetter (81,000) and Mina Greco (24,000) booked their tickets to the Day 2 restart Sunday at noon.

Regarding Henson, he took his leave in the penultimate level of the night with the blinds at 1,000/2,000/2,000. That is when Michael Sampognaro instantly reshoved over a Henson’s early jam. Henson had about 19,000 and Sampognaro had him covered.

Sampognaro showed QQ against the KK of Henson, but the former pulled out ahead on the Q107 flop. Henson couldn't find a king on the 4 turn nor the J river and hit the rail late in the evening.

Mason "Uncle Ron" Hinkle, Chris Horter, Kris Burchfield, and Ben Mintz also all failed to bag the first starting flight and will likely join the field at some point during either Day 1b or 1c, which will take place and Noon and 7 p.m. local time respectively on Saturday.

All the updates will be right here on PokerNews.com all weekend as the RGPS moves one step closer to crowning its next Main Event champion and sending ten more players to the Showbound satellite in Tulsa for a shot at playing on Poker After Dark.
