Kanaan Hits Six-Figures

As far as we can tell, Michael Kanaan is the first player to sit behind a six-figure stack. Plenty of those chips came courtesy of the following hand.

Folded to Justin Smith in the small blind, he raised it up to 1,100. Kanaan was in the big blind and made the call as the dealer flipped over a {2-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{10-Spades} flop. Kanaan and Smith both checked here and a {3-Diamonds} hit the turn. This time Smith led for 1,600 and Kanaan called. An {8-Diamonds} on the river would see Smith again check and Kanaan check behind.

"Ace high," said Smith without turning his hand over.

"Ace, what?" replied Kanaan, also not yet revealing his hand.

"Six," snapped back Smith.

Kanaan simply revealed his {a-}{9-} here and raked in the nice little pot.

"Just needed to bet, didn't I?" said Smith, more to himself than Kanaan. Smith received no reply.
