Day 2 Completed
That's a wrap here on Day 2 of the 2012 Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown Snowfest Main Event! It took two separate Day 2 flights and a combination of the two to get there, but what started as 87 has slowly been whittled down to 31 survivors. Of those players it is David Allan who holds the chip lead heading into Day 3 and is in the best shape to make a run at the title
It all began at 12:30 PM when 43 players partook in Day 2a. Of those players, only 23 would survive to take a three hour break and prepare for the combined Day 2 flight at 7:30 PM. Some of those who hit the rail on Day 2a include Danny Chevalier, Ben Richardson and World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner, Andrew Hinrichsen. When the three levels had taken place, it was Michael Kanaan who had managed to amass the largest chip stack.
While the remaining Day 2a players had their break, the 44 players from Day 2b would begin their quest for survival from 4:00 PM. At the end of another three levels, 24 had survived and no player from Day 2b had managed to get close to Kanaan’s stack. A few of the players who couldn’t survive this flight include James Honeybone, Leo Boxell and PokerStars Team Online Pro, Roy Bhasin.
Exactly 47 total players from the Day 2 flights combined at 7:30 PM and played another three levels. Some of those who made an exit during that time include Jarred Graham, Day 1c chip leader Nurlan Boobekov and current ANZ Player of the Year leader, Anthony Aston.
After the night was in the record books, a total of 31 had survived, with Allan the end-of-day chip leader for the second time of the week. Allan will begin Day 3 with 280,000 in chips and will be in good shape to find his way to finishing in the top-15 money spots and then finding a spot on the final table of nine.
Not far behind Allan on the chip leader board are David Zhao, Ricky Kroesen and 2011 ANZPT Sydney Main Event winner, Michael Kanaan. Also managing to survive were Billy Argyros, Michael Fadersen, Yvo Molin, Joel Feldman, Richard Lancaster, Matt Wakeman and Team PokerStars Pro, Bryan Huang as they are all still in the mix to make a run at the final table. A full Day 3 seating draw and the end-of-day chip counts can be seen below.
All of the surviving players will be looking to capture the glory, the ANZPT title and of course, the NZ$110,600 first-place prize. Who will be part of the final table? Only time will tell, so be sure to join us from 12:30 PM tomorrow as we play down to the final nine!

On the final hand of the day, Kristian Lunardi’s tournament has come crashing down in one giant, fatal blow.
David Zhao opened with a late-position raise, before Lunardi three-bet from the blinds. Zhao four-bet, Lunardi shoved and Zhao made the call.

It was a huge preflop clash with 200,000 in the middle in a make-or-break coinflip to end the day. Lunardi would need some help but the board bricked out to leave him empty-handed as Zhao catapults himself into one of the chip leaders with around 240,000 to end the day.
Michael Fadersen has landed a late double up to get back into contention. He recalled to us that he flatted with pocket aces preflop on the button and got a very pretty flop against Craig Blight.
Blight bet and Fadersen called, before Blight moved all in on the repeat turn. Fadersen obviously insta-called with aces full, as Blight was cruelly unlucky to table pocket queens for a small full house. With that hand, Fadersen doubles to 70,000.

The tournament clock has been paused and the call for five more hands has been made. We will have a wrap up of the day's action, along with the end-of-day chip counts posted as soon as possible. For your information, it is David Allan is going to be the chip leader heading into Day 3.
Dave Allan is now looking very strong for the end-of-day chip lead after winning a huge pot from Justin Huege de Serville. We arrived on the river with the board already spread . A bet of 32,000 was in front of Allan as Huege de Serville made a reluctant call.
Allan tabled for the turned flush as Huege de Serville slammed his pocket aces down onto the felt in frustration.

David Wonson limped under the gun, before Ricky Kroesen raised to 6,100. Antonin Duda made the call on the button and Ken Demlakian came along in the small blind.
“You’re not getting value,” chirped Kroesen in jest to Wonson, but he joined in the party to see a multi-way flop of .
All four players checked before the fell on the turn. Action checked to Kroesen who bet 11,300 but that just triggered all the action as Duda moved all in for 48,400, only to see Demlakian move all in over the top! Wonson and Kroesen quickly folded as Duda found his in dire trouble against Demlakian’s slow-played .
The river was the but it didn’t matter as Duda was out the door as Demlakian moves up to 190,000.
