Bruce Shows Byrns Bluff

When we arrived at Table 5, Lukas Byrns and Dylan Bruce were on the river of a 
board and there was around 8,000 already in the pot. Bruce was first to act and had a bet of 5,200 out in front of him. Byrns went into the tank and eventually folded 
face up.
As Bruce raked in the pot, he showed 
for a whole lot of nothing. Byrns didn’t look too excited to see that hand on the felt.
Small Hit to Watt

Tyson Cruise opened the action with a raise from the cutoff position to 525 and Simon Watt defended his big blind with a call to see a flop of 
. Both players checked and the 
appeared on the turn. Watt led out with a bet of 700 but Cruise quickly responded with a raise to 2,500.
Watt thought briefly before tossing his cards into the muck. A small hit for Watt slips him back to 17,500 approaching the first break of the day.

Suchanek Loses Some Chips

Jan Suchanek has taken an early hit to his stack in a battle of the blinds. We arrived to see a raise from Dean Stevenson in the big blind of an additional 1,400, which we presumed to be a three-bet. The action was back with Suchanek in the small blind who wasn’t content with that as he bumped the price an additional 2,700 more.
Stevenson thought briefly before declaring himself all in! Suchanek quickly folded as he saved his last 13,000 for a better spot.

Full Tilt Ambassador Coolers ANZ POY Runner Up

We recently made our way over to the faraway table on the casino floor here at the SKYCITY Auckland Casino and found that Luke Brabin was no longer in his seat. We also noticed ANZPT Full Tilt Ambassador Tom Grigg was sitting behind a stack of a little over 40,000.
While we were able to deduce that Grigg likely took all of Brabin’s chips, we got the full story off Grigg himself.
Apparently Brabin opened with 
and then called a three-bet from Grigg. Brabin then check-called a bet of 700 on the 
flop and then led for 1,600 on the 
turn. Grigg made it 4,300 here and Brabin jammed for around 16,000. Grigg made the call and the cards were turned over.
Brabin had for a turned straight, but a cooler would see Grigg open up 
for the bigger straight. The river was a brick and with that this year’s ANZ Player of the Year runner-up was eliminated.

Tenotoga One of the Early Leaders

Joseph Tenotoga has just taken down a very big pot against Debbie Fahy and is now one of the early chip leaders.
We arrived at the hand in question on the 
flop, with around 2,000 already in the pot and with Iori Yogo checking out of the big blind position. Fahy then led for 1,600 and Tenotoga raised it up to 6,900. Yogo quickly got out of the way and a Fahy made the call.
On the 
turn, Fahy led for 6,000 and Tenotoga quickly moved all in for an extra 8,325. Fahy looked a little pained as she opted to eventually fold, leaving herself short stacks, while Tentoga moved up to around 37,000.

Watt Looking for More Success

New Zealand’s only WSOP gold bracelet winner Simon Watt hasn’t been seen at too many events since his landmark victory against superstar Tom Dwan in 2010. He did, however, finish 3rd in the 2013 NZ$1,500 New Zealand Poker Open Main Event for a modest NZ$17,640 score.
Watt is in the field today and has recently taken down a small pot and seen his stack move above the starting amount. We caught the action when Watt opened it up with a raise from early position and received a lone call from the player in the big blind.
Watt’s opponent check-called a bet of 400 on the 
flop and a 
hit the turn. This time when the player checked, Watt bet 900 and that was enough to scoop up the pot.

Team PokerStars Pro Joins Tough Table

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang has wandered in as a late registrant. He’s joined our lone table which is situated on the casino floor around the corner from the poker room.
That table is actually one of the tougher ones in the tournament at the moment, with this year’s ANZ Player of the Year runner-up Luke Brabin, ANZPT Melbourne champion Paul Hockin and Full Tilt Poker Ambassador Tom Grigg all seated at what is currently a short-handed table.
