Day 1C Completed
The third and final Day 1 flight of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) Auckland Main Event has come to a close!
It was the biggest day yet as 103 players would eventually whittle down to just 50. So, with 103 players today, 44 on Day 1a and 66 on Day 1b, we would see field of 213 total players create a NZ$426,000 prize pool. That field size is six more than last year and a great result for the team here at the ANZPT and at SKYCITY Auckland.
The eventual champion will lock up NZ$110,760 and of all the players from Day 1c, it was Amant Nauhria who put himself in the best position to go all the way. Nauhria finished the day with 107,200 in chips after apparently being down to just 3,500 at the beginning of the first break of the day. Nauhria’s stack is just a little bigger than that of Day 1b chip leader Anesone Bragouits and is enough to see Nauhria start Day 2 as the overall chip leader.
Nauhria went under our radar today and when we asked him how he got all those chips he said that he doesn’t remember playing one big hand, just winning lots of small pots all afternoon. That’s how’s it’s done.
Some of the players who will be joining Nauhria at the felt on Day 2 include Steven Zhou, Jan Suchanek, Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang, this year’s ANZ Player of the Year Iori Yogo and New Zealand’s only WSOP gold bracelet winner, Simon Watt. The 50 total survivors from Day 1c will join the 54 from the previous two starting flights and begin making their way toward a final table.
Be sure to check out all the end-of-day 1c chip counts and the full Day 2 table draw in the live reporting blog below.
While all of the aforementioned players will still be fighting it out to become the next ANZPT champion, some of those from Day 1c who weren’t able to progress include Luke Brabin, Tom Grigg, 2011 Aussie Millions champion David Gorr, Alicia Sale and Paul Hockin.
All the action on Day 2 will commence at 12.15 p.m. local time and the plan is to play ten levels or down to a final table. It’s not likely that we will make a final table in that amount of time, so ten levels it shall be. Be sure to join us then!

The clock has been paused and each table is now dealing four more hands.
Stay tuned to find out all the end-of-day chip counts and a wrap-up of the day's action.
ANZPT Commissioner also just confirmed to the room that tomorrow will see ten levels of action play out.
Iori Yogo has just won quite a big pot off of Kani Edwards. We didn’t catch all the action, but we did see the showdown following the river of a board. Yogo held and Edwards had . The pot was about 30,000 in chips and would see Yogo move up to a little under 50,000.
Edwards still has 75,000 and that’s enough to be around the top of the counts, but he certainly hasn’t secured the title of “end-of-day chip leader” yet.

Kani Edwards | 75,000 | -15,000 |
Iori Yogo | 47,500 | 8,500 |
Oleg Veronin has just dealt the fatal blow to Alicia Sale during this last level of the day. The hand started with Veronin opening to 1,600 from early position, at which point Sale moved all in for 11,275 on Veronin’s direct left. The action folded back around to Veronin and he made the call.
Sale immediately got out of her seat as she turned over . She was however in front against Veronin’s . The the board was spread on the felt and it was all over.

Jason McMahon was looking a likely candidate for our end-of-day chip lead but a big clash with George Manolas has seen that lead change hands.
McMahon opened with a raise to 1,600 before Manolas three-bet to 3,500. Action folded back to McMahon who made the call to see a flop of . Manolas flicked out a bet of 3,000 but Manolas popped that up to 8,500. McMahon quickly called as a big pot was brewing when the fell on the turn.
McMahon checked and Manolas moved all in for a total of 22,475.
“Here goes the chip lead,” sighed McMahon as he flicked out a single chip to declare a call. McMahon was right as his had been notched by Manolas’ .
The river was the to see Manolas double to a very healthy stack of 70,000. McMahon takes a big hit but he’s still in sound shape with around 55,000.

Kani Edwards was one of the first players to sky rocket into a huge chip lead early in the day, then his stack slowly whittled down throughout the afternoon.
Now, following the elimination of Paul Hockin, Edwards is once again the chip leader.
The massive hand began with a player from under the gun opening to 2,400. Folded around to Edwards and he made the call. Hockin was in the cut off and three-bet to 6,000. The under-the-gun player called and it was back on Edwards. After checking to see that Hockin had around 25,000 behind, Edwards moved all in for 36,000. Hockin made the call and the under the gun was out of the way.
Unfortunately for Hockin he had ran his into the of Edwards and following a board run out of , Hockin was sent home, while Edwards was up to around 90,000 in chips.
