Day 1b Started

Second and Final Chance for ANZPT Perth Success

Welcome back to Western Australia for continued action on Season 5 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour.

Not surprisingly it is very hot in the Perth sun today, but that wont affect somewhere around 100 poker players who will find themselves under the air conditioning of the poker room at Crown Perth.

Yesterday the first of two Day 1 flights began with 67 players, which was whittled down to 38 by the time six levels had entered the record books. In the end it was Peter Woodworth who bagged the chip lead, while Perth crusher Dale Marsland was second in chips.

Who will manage to make Day 1b of the ANZPT Perth Main Event their time to shine? Only time will tell, so make sure to join us from 12.30pm as the PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be felt side for all the action!

Time For A Delay

We are experiencing a little bit of a delay here at the start of Day 1b. The cards should be in the air shortly - around ten minutes behind schedule.

While you wait, check out Lynn Gilmartin's tour of this beautiful Australian city:

What's the Plan?

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

As was the case yesterday, Day 1b will feature six 60-minute levels before the surviving players bag up their chips and prepare for Day 2.

There will be 10-minute breaks at the end of level 2 and level 4. Blinds commence at 50-100 and players start with 20,000 in chips.

Let's go have a look who we recognise at the tables!

A Late Trophy for Hockin

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Toward the end of last year, New Zealand's Paul Hockin won the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event. Unfortunately there was a delay in the delivery of Hockin's trophy and so he has been waiting patiently to take home the memento for his efforts. Finally that day has come as the team at PokerStars have just presented Hockin with his trophy! Hockin was also given the honour of calling for the shuffle up and deal.

Lot's of Faces

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Walking around the three sections of the ANZPT Perth Main Event and we have recognised a huge amount of players. Included amongst the felt are fellow ANZPT Melbourne final tablists Paul Hockin, Michael Guzzardi and Ashley Warner and fellow ANZPT Auckland final tablists Pravin Harji, Jamie Mulligan and Graeme Putt.

A Couple of Team Pros

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Among today's field is a couple of Team PokerStars Pros in Bryan Huang and Angel Guillen. Huang has made two ANZPT final tables in the past and will be looking for more success here in Perth, while Guillen will be looking to break through with a big ANZPT result after having much success on many of the other PokerStars tours around the world.

Players, Players, Everywhere

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Today's field has easily surpassed yesterday's 67 players, with 142 players already taking their seats here on Day 1b and registration is still open.

This brings the total number to 209 players so far - a solid number considering the move back up to a $2,200 buy-in after last year's $1,100 ANZPT Perth Main Event where 310 players entered. In 2010 and 2011, when the buy in was $2,500, the ANZPT Main Event featured fields of 222 and 220 players respectively.
