Macau Champion Battling for Repeat

Eddie Sabat, champion of the APPT Macau Main Event, got off to a strong start yesterday before fading a bit towards the end of the day to finish with about 20,000 chips, an average stack. He just found a nice double-up against Joseph Morrow. On a flop of {7-Hearts} {7-Spades} {10-Hearts}, Sabat checked to Morrow, who made it 2,500 to go. Sabat took his time considering his action before check-raising to 6,500. Morrow responded by putting in the third raise to 14,000. Sabat moved all in for just 2,000 more and Morrow made a sheepish call.

Sabat: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Morrow: {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs}

Sabat was in great shape. His kings held through a turn and river of {5-Clubs} and {J-Clubs} to allow him to double up.

Saab Chattering Up a Storm

David Saab is relishing his role as social chair at Table 12. He has been a non-stop chatterbox, even as opponents around him are down to the felt. Christian Wolf moved all in as a short-stack and was called by Jamess Suen. Wolf showed {8-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} against Suen's {A-Hearts} {J-Clubs}.

"Oh, a race!" exclaimed Saab. "You'll win. Snowmen are lucky. Eights are very lucky in Asia." Saab maintained his enthusiasm through a flop of {7-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}, but that was unable to save Wolf as the turn {10-Hearts} and river {A-Spades} sent him packing.

"Ah, unlucky," said Saab with a shake of his head. Then he started laughing at one of his own jokes.

"What'd I tell you?" asked Randy Propson from the other end of the table. "First guy's knocked out and you're laughing."

"It's true," replied Saab. "My heart is stone."

Propson chuckled. "What an ***hole."

Too Much Stop, Not Enough Go

On a flop of {4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{K-Hearts} David Lee moved all in for his last 4,300 from the big blind in a classic "stop and go" maneuver. Daniel Williams was his opponent and after several minutes of deliberation and muttering to himself regarding the maths of his decision he finally declared a call.

In a battle of the PokerStars qualifiers, Williams held {J-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} to be drawing with his open-ended straight draw, however remarkably he didn't need to worry about his draw as Lee sheepishly turned over {2-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for a huge air ball. The {Q-Clubs} fell on the turn to leave Lee drawing dead, as the {4-Diamonds} on the river sent him to the rail.

"A gift!" exclaimed the rest of the table as Williams shrugged his shoulders and stacked up close to 30,000 in chips.

The Rich Get Richer, vol. 47

Jan Van Dyk started the day as the chip leader and he has continued to punish his table. After Larry Pashak opened for 1,600 from under the gun, Van Dyk called out of the small blind and was joined by Tadashi Yachida. Each man checked the {4-Spades} {5-Hearts} {9-Spades} flop, although Yachida tank-checked, drawing a laugh from Pashak. On the turn {K-Hearts}, action again passed to Pashak, who tried a bet of 2,000. No sooner had his chips hit the felt, then Van Dyk announced a raise to 6,000. That brought a snap-muck from Yachida and Pashak.

PokerStars professional Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier is the latest to join the Seoul shopping tour as he was recently eliminated.

Grospellier, in the small blind, saw a flop of {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{7-Spades} where he checked to Nick Lackovic in the big blind who fired out 2,000. Osawa Masahiro, on the button, then popped it up to 8,000 before Grospellier moved all in for about 16,000. Lackovic tanked and folded before Masahiro snap-called.

Grospellier: {Q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}
Masahiro: {K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

The turn and river bricked {3-Diamonds}, {6-Clubs} to send Grospellier crashing out of the tournament.

Bang!

Michael Bang is on fire this morning as he has recently sent two more players to the rail. His latest victim was Nobuyuki Okuda who lost the race holding pocket sevens against Bang's {A-Clubs}{6-Clubs} when Bang was able to spike an ace on the turn.

Bang is now up to around 46,000.

Today's Format

We have been advised that play will now be eight-handed for the remainder of this event. Also because this is not a filmed final table, there is actually no requirement for the tournament to reach the final table today. Instead it has been announced that we will be playing a minimum of six levels today, however play will continue until we have reached the money stage of the tournament (final 16 players) today.
