Xia Hunts A Double Up

We arrived at the table to see Dennis Huntly bet out 600 on the turn and find one caller in Xia Dong Xia on a {a-Hearts}{6-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} board, as the other players in the hand got out of the way.

When the river came the {k-Hearts}, Huntly put in a bet of 1,500 and Xia announced all in for his remaining 4,075 chips. Huntly snapped called and tabled {a-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} only to tap the table when Xia showed {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for a full house.

Greer Gone

Norah Greer
Norah Greer

Norah Greer is the latest victim of the rail, her demise coming when she had her {k-Hearts}{q-Spades} all-in preflop against the short-stacked {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} of Octavian Voegele and the {a-Spades}{j-Spades} of Alicia Sale.

Sale had both of her opponents covered and would be looking for a double-knockout but when the board ran out {8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}, it would be Voegele's pair of kings that would take down the pot.

Greer gets sent to the rail, while Voegele survives with around 15,000.

Scott Sent Sailing

Andrew Scott won't be calling himself the 2011 APPT Queenstown Champion, with his demise taking place when the following hand played out.

The action was started off when Scott raised to 500 from under the under the gun. Brad Bower would make a call, along with Jack Efraimo in the big blind.

Flop: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}{7-Hearts}

Efaraimo checked the play to Scott who sent 1,100 into the pot. Bower would get out of the way while Efaraimo popped in a min-raise. Scott then moved all-in and Efaraimo called with his {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Scott was shattered as he tabled his {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, needing a ten for a win or runner-runner high cards for a chop.

The turn and river would come with low cards and Scott made his way to the exit as Efaraimo took down the pot.

Straights All Round

Leo Boxell and Norah Greer
Leo Boxell and Norah Greer

The action was flying fast with a hand that featured Leo Boxell, Norah Greer and Brian Biggs and one other opponent.

By the time the {q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs} was showing, the unknown opponent was forced out of the hand by a bet of 1,000 from Greer, while Boxell and Biggs made the call to watch the turne be dealt the {j-Hearts}

This time Boxell would be the leader, throwing out 2,000 and receiving calls from both his opponents.

The {8-Clubs} on the river would complete the straight on the board and all players would proceed to check their hands.

Greer was playing the board, holding {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, while Boxell could do one better, turning over {k-Spades}{q-Spades}. Boxell's hand wouldn't be enough though as Biggs tabled his {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} for the largest of the three straights.

King-Deuce Still 'The Nuts'

Brad Bower
Brad Bower

The action at Brad Bower's table started when Andrew Scott opened to 500 from the hijack seat. Bower called from the button and the player in the big blind also came along for the ride.

The flop hit the felt showing {2-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and the big blind player check-folded as Scott led for 950. Bower made the call and watched as the {3-Spades} hit the turn. Scott again led, with Bower calling the 1,800 chip bet.

The river was the {q-Diamonds} and Scott continued his aggression, thowing out 3,200. Bower called yet again, and Scott turned over his {7-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} for a whole lot of nothing, while Bower turned over his {k-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, the pair of deuces solid enough to rake in the pot.

Cohen Heads For The Exit

Julian Cohen
Julian Cohen

Julian Cohen has been relatively short-stacked the last couple of hours and when Cohen held {8-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and a board showed {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts}{a-Hearts} with Cohen up against one opponent, it was looking good for Cohen to take the double-up.

Of course, as the title has certainly given away the outcome of this hand, it won't suprise you to hear that his opponent held {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}, with the turned full-house too good for Cohen's flush and having Cohen drawing dead.

Cohen may have to be content with his victory in the Queenstown ANZPT last year, becuase here at the 2011 APPT Snowfest Cohen is heading towards the exit.

King-Deuce, A.K.A 'The Nuts'

Norah Greer limped from under the gun before Octavian Voegele made it 800 to go from directly to Greer's left. The play was then folded around to Sale who three-bet to 2,650 from the button. The action then folded back around to Voegele.

Flop: {6-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Clubs}

Voegele was first to act on the flop and he slid in a stack of 1,000 denomination chips, with enough to cover Sale. When Sale snap-called Voegele would turn over {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. Sale then tabled her {k-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}.

The board ran out {9-Clubs}, {8-Diamonds} with no jack for Voegele as he takes the hit to his stack, while sale manages to sit healthy.
