One More Level

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

The last level of the day has just commenced. Still in the field but struggling for chips is 2011 APPT Melbourne Main Event Champion Leo Boxell, while it is 29 players who still survive with 60-minutes of play left for the day.

Top Pair No Good

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Greg Familton and Jeremy McDonald have been battling it out over at their table, with the two players being involved in quite a few hands in the last couple of levels.

We came to the table with a turn card beaing dealt and the board showing {3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}. Familton checked to McDonald who bet 4,500 and another player involved in the pot got out of the way while Familton made the call.

The {4-Clubs} was the river card and when McDonald checked, Familton announced he was all-in for a total of 17,800.

McDonald then went into the tank for a few minutes before sighing and open-folding {a-Hearts}{j-Clubs}.

"Nice hand," said McDonald as Familton raked in the pot.

Dodds Doing It

When the action folded to Joel Dodds in the hijack seat he would open the pot for 750. Alicia Sale made the call from the button and Leo Boxell woulld also make the call from the big blind.

Flop: {2-Spades}{4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}

Boxell would check to Dodds, who threw in 1,300 worth of chips. Sale made the call and so did Boxell as a turn would be dealt.

The next couple of cards would see all players check, with the {5-Spades} hitting the turn and the {4-Spades} falling on the river.

Dodds would be the first player to showdown his hand, tabling {a-Spades}{10-Clubs}, which was enough to send his opponents cards into the muck.

Speaking of "Doddsy", if you've ever wondered who his idol was or if he was romantic, check out this edition of Calling the Clock:

Xia Spikes A Queen

We came to Dennis Huntly's table just in time to see Huntly lead into Xia Dong Xia 9,000 with a flop showing {a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}. The pot only had 3,000 in it at the time and when Dong Xia shipped his remaining 17,575 into the pot Huntly would snap-call.

"You got Ace-King?" Asked Dong Xia as he tabled his {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}.

When Huntly's {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} hit the felt, Dong Xia's questioned was answered and it was looking like it was home time for Dong Xia.

The miracle {q-Spades} on the turn would be the card Dong Xia was looking for and when the river bricked it was a nice double-up for Dong Xia as Huntly takes the bad beat and gives Dong Xia his second double-up for the day.

Comparing The Numbers

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

With the numbers in for the 2011 APPT Queenstown Snowfest we thought we would take a look at how the numbers compare to past year's.

The Snowfest makes for the first time that the APPT has called Queenstown its home, with 127 players taking to the felt over the last three days. The last two APPT events that were held in New Zealand saw alot higher numbers, with the event played in Auckland and featuring over 200 players. While there is a big difference in these numbers, it might be fair to compare the APPT Queenstown to the events that have been played in this city.

Last year saw Queenstown play host to the ANZPT, with 119 players taking to that smaller buy-in event, APPT Queenstown managing to beat that number by 8 and with the higher-buyin.

Ten Minutes

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

The remaining players have been sent on a ten minute break. When they get back there will be two more 60-minute levels before play at Day 1c ends.
