Karamalikis Eliminates Katchalov

Level 10 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov

Any hope of a member of Team PokerStars capturing the title has just come to an end as Eugene Katchalov was just eliminated from the tournament.

It happened when he and Jonathan Karamalikis, who won this very event last year, raised back and forth preflop until Katchalov was all in for roughly 580,000.

Katchalov: {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Karamalikis: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

It was a bad spot for the Team Pro, and his best chance to survive was to catch an ace. The {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{2-Hearts} flop was no help, and neither was the {8-Spades} turn. Katchalov was up out of his seat, and just as soon as the useless {6-Spades} fell on the river, he made a beeline for the exit. With that, Karamalikis vaulted up to two million in chips.

Meyers Continues to Slip

Level 10 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Brandon Meyers raised to 61,000 from the button and then called when Jonathan Karamalikis three-bet to 147,000 from the small blind. It was heads-up action to the {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop, and Karamalikis led out for 132,000. Meyers, who had less than 400,000 back, opted to preserve his stack with a fold.

Bad Beat Sends Newey to the Rail in 10th Place

Level 10 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Vladimir Troyanovskiy opened for 65,000 from the under-the-gun position and action folded to Paul Newey on the button. Newey looked as his stack, eyed the clock, and then announced that he was all in for roughly 600,000. The blinds folded and Troyanovskiy shrugged before making the call.

Troyanovskiy: {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}
Newey: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Newey, a regular on the high roller circuit seeking his first major score, was on his feet even before he saw the flop come down {6-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Troyanovskiy found a jack and Newey was crestfallen. He realized he had outs to either a queen or ten, but he would find neither as the {2-Hearts} appeared on the turn followed by the {6-Clubs} on the river.

Newey composed himself enough to shake hands with Troyanovskiy and then made his way over to his friends Senh Ung and Rob Schiffbauer for consolation. Newey's elimination meant just nine players remained, so it's time for the final table redraw.

Cheong Falls Before the Final Table

Level 10 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

As Paul Newey was being eliminated at one table, a big hand was taking place between Kyle Cheong and Aidan Tam at the other.

When we arrived, there was around 250,000 in the pot and a board reading {5-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. Cheong had just bet 92,000, and Tam responded by moving all in. Cheong had around 300,000 behind and wasted little time in calling it off.

Cheong: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}
Tam: {q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}

A fortunate flop allowed Tam to crack Cheong's aces, but more importantly — and much to the dismay of Cheong — it held as the {10-Spades} blanked on the turn followed by the {K-Spades} on the river.

The elimination occurred before the final table redraw, which means just eight players will be at the final table.

Start-of-Day Chip Leader Eliminated by Tam

Level 10 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Not long ago, Aidan Tam cracked the pocket aces of Brandon Meyers in an all-in preflop situation. The hand gave Tam the chip lead and left Meyers, who began the day as chip leader, on a shorter stack. Unfortunately for Meyers, he was unable to recover after that bad beat.

In what would be his last hand, action folded to Meyers on the button and he moved all in for his last 130,000. The small blind folded, and fittingly, Tam made the call from the big.

Tam: {a-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}
Meyers: {k-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}

The {6-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds} flop paired Tam's ace, but it also gave Meyers a flush draw. The {3-Hearts} turn gave Meyers even more outs, but he'd miss them all when the {2-Spades} appeared on the river. Meyers made a hasty exit from the tournament floor while Tam increased his chip lead.

Rossiter Doubles Through the Chip Leader

Level 10 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

We missed the preflop action, but we do know that Jeff Rossiter got his last 577,000 all in preflop and was up against chip leader Aidan Tam. Rossiter held the {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and was comfortably ahead of Tam's {a-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. The {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}{2-Spades} flop gave both players a pair of aces, but of course Rossiter's kicker kept him in the lead.

The {Q-Clubs} turn actually gave Rossiter two pair, which meant Tam was drawing dead headed to the river. The meaningless {K-Spades} was put out, and then Tam counted out some chips to pay off Rossiter.

McCarty's Elimination Brings About the Bubble

Level 11 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Senh Ung opened for 82,000 and received a call from Vladimir Troyanovskiy. When action reached former Red Dragon winner James McCarty in the big blind, he moved all in for 578,000. Ung folded and then Troyanovskiy slid in a big stack of red T25,000 chips to signify a call.

Troyanovskiy: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
McCarty: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}

McCarty was behind, but he was drawing to two live cards. The {10-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{4-Hearts} flop actually gave Troyanovskiy top set, but it also gave McCarty a flush draw. "Heart," one of McCarty's supporters called from the rail. The dealer instead put out the {5-Diamonds}.

"Heart," the same supported yelled before the river, obviously oblivious to the fact that Troyanovskiy had made a full house to leave McCarty drawing dead. Whether or not McCarty realized that is unknown as he simply stared at the board until the dealer put out the {2-Diamonds} on the river.

McCarty exited in seventh place, and that means we're on the bubble. One more player will go home empty handed while the other five will earn themselves a nice payday here in Macau.
