Bit of Action

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

Dean Schneider opened the action to 500 from early position and a player in the cut-off made the call. Joel Feldman was in the small blind and three-bet to 2,200. Schneider made a fairly quick call and so too did the player in the cut-off.
On the {6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} flop, Feldman tapped the table and Schneider bet 3,175. Two quick folds meant that Schneider had scooped up the small pot.

As the above hand was playing out, we heard a dealer yell “lost a player!” at a nearby table and looked over to find a player exiting the tournament and Jonathan Karamalikis busy stacking up plenty of chips. The recently appointed ANZPT Full Tilt Ambassador now has around 50,000 in chips.

Aristidou Falling

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

We arrived at the table with the board showing {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{10-Clubs} and three players committing 475 chips into the middle.

The {j-Clubs} fell on the turn as Peter Arisitidou checked his option from the big blind. The player in the cut-off bet out 1,500 which forced the player on the button to fold. Arisitdou made the call as the {j-Spades} completed the board. Aristidou checked once more, before calling a final bet of 2,500.

His opponent then tabled his {j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} for running trips, which sent Aristidou flying back into his chair. He sat shocked and motionless for a moment before releasing his hand, before stepping away from the table to calm himself down.

Brabin Building Back

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Four players limped into the pot including Luke Brabin on the button. The flop came down {4-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{q-Clubs} before both blinds checked their options. A bet of 200 from the player under the gun was only called by Brabin, as the two watched the {10-Diamonds} fall on the turn. Brabin once again called a bet of 300 as the {a-Diamonds} completed the board.

Both players checked before Brabin tabled his {q-Spades}{9-Clubs} for a pair of queens. His opponent sighed before throwing his cards into the muck.

More Tables, More Players

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

A new section of the Crown Poker Room has been brought to our attention as the field size on Day 1a of the APPT Melbourne Main Event is seemingly ever-growing.

Among the new players include Daniel Neilson, Michel Bouskila, Matt "mjw006" Wakeman, Michael Guzzardi, Luke Brabin, Trung Tran and recent ANZPT Queenstown Main Event champion Jonathan Bredin.

It is look like today''s field will be large enough to see the total field move past 300.

Alt Back to Starting Stack

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The action folded around to Dinesh Alt in the cut off who opened to 250. He was called by the player on the big blind, before both saw the flop come down {9-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

The player in the big blind checked, as Alt threw out a continuation bet of 300. He was met instantly with a raise to 950 which he called. The {k-Hearts} fell on the turn which saw another check. Alt casually bet of 2,000 which was enough to take down the pot.

Some More Faces at the Felt

Level 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

As the first level of the day marches on we have noticed more and more faces at the felt.

Among those include Australian Poker Hall of Fame member and 2011 APPT Melbourne champ Leo Boxell. David Borg, who finished runner-up in a big 2012 WSOP event, is also at the tables, along with recent 2013 APPT Melbourne side event victors Daniel Levy and Yesha Desai. Levy won the $50 NLHE Accumulator events, while Desai took home the $350 Mixed Max title.
