Luke Brabin has taken a small hit in his quest for ANZ Player of the Year honours. Brabin opened with a raise to 10,000 from early position and picked up two callers in the blinds. They took a flop of and Brabin's continuation bet of 14,000 was called by Bowdy Tolhopf in the small blind.
The was checked by both players before a repeat landed on the river. Cool as a cucumber, Tolhopf flung out a bet of just 10,000. The price was too good as Brabin made the call only to cringe and muck when Tolhopf showed .
Brabin drops to 140,000 with Tolhopf going well with 340,000.
Bernard Beh had secured a double through Jason Gray. We believe that Beh opened with a raise before Gray three-bet to 23,000 in position. When Beh moved all in for his last 81,000, Gray felt priced in with but the of Beh was not the hand that Gray wanted to see.
The board ran out to see Beh double through to about 180,000 with Gray down to about 300,000.
The hand started with the player in the cut off opening to 8,500. Dean Schneider was on the small blind, and bumped it up to 18,000. Chane Kampanatsanyakorn tanked for a minute from the big blind, before just making the call. The original better got out of the way, as the other two watched the flop fall .
Schneider instantly moved for his stack, and threw out 19,000. It didn’t take long for Kampanatsanyakorn to make his decision, opting to toss his cards into the muck.
We spoke too soon about a comeback for Bernard Beh. Just moments after finding a double up, we walked past the table again to find him crippled and all in preflop for pocket change. Jonathan Karamalikis and Dejan Boskovic were also in the hand, with Karamalikis betting 21,500 on the flop and 27,000 on the turn into the side pot on a board of .
When the appeared on the river, Karamalikis checked abd Boskovic slid out 95,000. Karamalikis quickly flashed his and folded as Boskovic collected the pot with for a flush. Beh mucked and exited with Boskovic now up to around 600,000 chips.

Late into the night it was looking like Dejan Boskovic would be the chip leader. However, it was Yan who steadily built a stack throughout Day 2 to end up with the chip lead. Yan, from New Zealand, is no stranger to the Crown Poker Room as he finished 6th in the Aussie Millions Main Event earlier this year.
Check out all the end-of-day chip counts and the Day 2 table and seating draw in the blog below!
With only the top 36 players set to make the money, Day 2 was never going to get near the bubble. Some of those who fell extremely short of the deep run they were looking for include Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang, Brendon Rubie, Gary Benson, Ashley Warner, Daniel Neilson, Dave Allan, Aaron Benton and WSOP gold bracelet winner Jarred Graham.
While players like Graham weren’t able to survive, other prominent Aussies thrived. Some of those who finished Day 2 with a handy chip stack include recently appointed Full Tilt ANZPT Ambassador Jonathan Karamalikis, Australian Poker Hall of Fame member Jason Gray, Dave Heskin, 2010 ANZPT Melbourne champion Martin Kozlov, Ivan Zalac and British expatriate Ashley Mason.
When the 42 players return on Day 3 of the APPT Melbourne Main Event the plan will be to burst through the money and play down to the final table. Be sure to check in with the PokerNews Live Reporting Team from 12.30pm local time on Sunday to find out who makes the final nine!
