Carmona Continues On

Don Carmona is continuing his merry way, after recently raised a pot to take down the blinds and antes uncontested. Carmona laughed and flashed pocket queens.

Tran Looks For Better Spot

Hien Tran opened with a raise to 2,200 from the cutoff before Steve Wong popped it up to 5,600 from the small blind. Tran took his time before making the call.

The flop landed {10-Clubs}{A-Spades}{9-Spades} and Wong led out for 6,800. Tran again deliberated before decided to wait for a better spot. Wong chips up once again and is now back to 35,000 chips.

Tan Critiques His Own Play

We were recently standing over Teac Mang Tan's table, trying to figure out what had happened to his stack. It reached a high point of about 70,000 earlier in the day but had regressed all the way to about 35,000. While there we witnessed Tan play a hand against one opponent.

Tan had first action on a board of {A-Spades} {Q-Spades} {9-Diamonds}. He opened for 1,100 then quickly called his opponent's raise to 3,000 straight. The turn was the {7-Spades}. Tan checked then called another 3,500. Both players checked the {4-Clubs} river. Lets have a look, gentlemen!

Tan: {9-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}
Opponent: {9-Spades} {5-Clubs}

It was a chopped pot.

"Man am I a donkey," said Tan after he collected his half of the pot. "What a calling station, huh? I'll call anything."

Boukai Still Applying Pressure

The flop was {6-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} and two players on Table 11 who have spent a lot of time tangling today were at it again. Rami Boukai opened for 2,500. Button player Inwook Choi raised to 6,000. Boukai responded by popping it up to 14,000. That was enough to end the hand.

Boukai flashed a pair of sixes in the hole as he collected the pot and climbed to 63,000 chips.

Two Wongs Make A Right

Another Wong is making big waves on the tournament floor at the moment as Nick Wong has stormed to the tournament chip lead.

We rushed to Wong's table to see the chips being pushed in his direction after his {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} won the preflop race with a short stack's {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. However Wong had to wait until the river on a board of {K-?}{4-?}{2-?}{9-?}{Q-?}. He gave a shout of delight as he raked in the chips to now sit behind over 80,000 chips.

Wong Has Opponent Drawing Dead

Steve Wong
Steve Wong
Steve Wong has just been gifted a rather generous double up after he fired 2,500 on a board of {4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} before his opponent min-raised to 5,000. Wong didn't have much more behind, and committed an additional 3,500 which put him all in. His opponent cringed and made a pot-committed call.

Wong: {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Opponent: {K-Spades}{9-Spades}

Wong had his opponent drawing dead as the river was the {5-Diamonds}. Wong doubles to around 30,000.

A Misstep for Se

Kane Se said he was banking on a player's table image as incredibly tight when he raised all in on a {K-Clubs} {K-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {9-Spades}. That player, who had opened the turn action with a bet of 3,500, quickly called his last 7,100.

"You got me," Se said as he showed {A-Diamonds} {4-Diamonds}. His opponent made a full house with {K-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} and collected the pot after a {6-Hearts} river. Se is down to 26,000.

Carmona is Pumped!

Don Carmona, in more sedate times
Don Carmona, in more sedate times
Don Carmona just went running down the aisle between the poker tables, whooping and hollering. Most of what he was saying was unintelligible to us, but he was clearly pumped. Several times he banged a fist over his heart, as if to signify how much heart he has when he's playing poker. The theatrics were quite extended, lasting well over a minute and drawing the attention of the whole room to the point that players at several tables started applauding in mock appreciation of the performance.

We have no idea what the action on the hand was (and really, Carmona was far too excited to ask and the rest of the table far too amused / disgusted to be bothered to tell us). We only saw the board -- {2-Diamonds} {10-Spades} {5-Spades} {8-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} -- and Carmona's hand, an unimproved {A-Spades} {J-Spades}. The loser's hand had already been killed and the loser was counting off the chips necessary to double up Carmona.

The loser counted down 23,400, allowing Carmona to double up to about 55,000 with just ace-high.
