We're on the Bubble!

We've finally reached the money bubble in this tournament. The next player eliminated will be thoroughly disappointed as the final five are guaranteed to collect AU$20,000 for their time.

Madsen Collects From Hachem in Razz

Razz:

Razz rarely stimulates the imagination, but one of the final hands of razz round was a little intriguing between Joe Hachem and Jeff Madsen.

Hachem was showing {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}{J-Spades}{5-Hearts} and Madsen {3-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{8-Spades}{K-Hearts} as Madsen's {A-Hearts} river card was accidentally dealt face-up. After some discussion with floor staff, play continued with Madsen playing it face-up.

Hachem checked and Madsen bet 5,000. Hachem called but Madsen revealed {7-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} for an eight low, which Hachem could not better.

Joe Hachem Bubbles in 6th Place

Joe Hachem, still in search of that elusive Aussie Millions title
Joe Hachem, still in search of that elusive Aussie Millions title
Stud:

Joe Hachem was all in for his last chips on fifth street in a hand against Alexander Kostritsyn.

Hachem: ({J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}) {10-Clubs}{J-Spades}{2-Spades}
Kostritsyn: ({A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}) {A-Spades}{K-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Hachem jumped from his chair yelling, "One time!" apparently in annoyance at Kostritsyn improving to a better two pair. Hachem would need some help but he caught running sevens.

Hachem bubbles as we're now in the money!

Game Paused

Our final table was paused for a moment or two to allow newly-crowned Aussie Millions champion Stewart Scott, decked out in brand new suit, to shake hands with each of our final table players and enjoy some casual chit-chat as part of his newly-found fame and fortune.

Madsen Steams His Way Into Aces

Jeff Madsen appeared to be steaming after losing a recent stud hi/lo hand against Chris Ferguson. Madsen was leading the betting with an uncoordinated board until Ferguson paired up with queens. Ferguson bet out and Madsen angrily grabbed his cards and seemingly wanted to crunch them up in his hands as he tossed them into the muck.

He was still visibly steaming when the first hand of the round of hold'em was dealt. Alexander Kostritsyn raised from the cutoff before Madsen three-bet in the big blind.

The flop was {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Madsen bet out and Kostritsyn called. The turn was the {6-Diamonds} and again Madsen hastily bet. Kostritsyn raised but Madsen quickly reraised once again. Kostritsyn gave it up and Madsen revealed {A-Spades}{A-Hearts} at a perfect opportunity to take advantage of his image.

Zac Fellows Eliminated in 5th Place (AU$20,000)

Zac Fellows
Zac Fellows
Omaha Hi/Lo:

Omaha hi/lo claims another victim, this time it's Zac Fellows. In a battle of the blinds, Fellows and Alexander Kostritsyn were involved in a preflop raising war that eventually led to both players agreeing to getting it all in.

Fellows: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}
Kostritsyn: {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and Kostritsyn flopped the wheel -- good for the high and the low to take it down. Fellows is eliminated in fifth place for AU$20,000.

Ferguson Scoops Against Madsen

Omaha Hi/Lo:

Chris Ferguson raised to 8,000 from under the gun before Alex Kostritsyn popped it up to 12,000 from the button. Jeff Madsen called in the big blind as did Ferguson.

The flop was {9-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Madsen led for 4,000. Both opponents made the call. The turn was the {A-Clubs} and again Madsen led with a bet of 8,000. Ferguson and Kostritsyn both called.

The river was the {7-Diamonds} and Madsen checked to Ferguson, who bet for 8,000. Kostritsyn folded and Madsen called.

Ferguson showed {5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for two pair and a low to scoop the entire pot as Madsen flashed {A-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and mucked.

Ferguson is up to 189,000 with Madsen down to 104,000.

Play Resumes

The players are back after a slightly extended delay with Jeff Madsen downing some sushi and Chris Ferguson enjoying some bread and dips. Unfortunately for my stomach, it appears that we're not stopping for a dinner break anytime soon.
