While the Aussie Millions Main Event final table is in full swing in the TV studio, the action doesn't appear to stop in the Crown Poker Room. Another day, another new event and another opportunity for players to take a shot at an Aussie Millions gold ring.
This time we're here for Event #16: $10,200 H.O.R.S.E, which should see a small but highly talented field take to the felt.
The action is scheduled to commence in about ten minutes time so stay tuned!
With some late registrations, we now have four tables in play. The group has created a nice little prize pool for our eventual cash winners.
Some of the notables include Lee Nelson, Chris Ferguson, Billy "The Croc" Argyros, Ivan Demidov, Joe Hachem, Jeff Lisandro, Tony Bloom, Tino Lechich and Alexander Kostritsyn.
Some of the other recent arrivals include Tony G, Jeff Madsen, Michael Binger, Gary Beson, Mel Judah and Steve Sung.
There are currently 25 entrants with registratiosn still open.
Jeff Lisandro and his table were recently overheard discussing the structure with the tournament staff. H.O.R.S.E can often be a slow moving game, especially in the early goings with the blinds so small. So it was proposed by the players to reduce the levels from one hour to 50 minutes until the final table, and reduce the breaks from fifteen to ten minutes, to speed up the pace of the tournament.
We'll keep you posted if anything further emerges from this discussion.
As expected, the play has been relatively slow in the early stages. The players started with 20,000 in chips and David Morton is our early leader with over 25,000. Chris Ferguson and David Bach are close behind.
Morton has a H.O.R.S.E title under his bet after capturing the win at the Victorian Championships here at Crown last year. He will be one to watch out there today.
Meanwhile, Alexander Kostritsyn hasn't had the best 2009 Aussie Millions campaign. He's currently the short stack with around 14,000.
Sam Khouiss raised and Jan Suchanek called out of the big blind. The flop was and Suchanek check-called the bet from Khouiss. The turn landed the and this time Suchanek put in a check-raise. Khouiss made the call and they saw the hit the river.
Suchanek led out with a bet, but Khouiss raised. Suchanek made the call.
"Nuts," said Khouiss and tabled . Suchanek mucked and slipped to 12,225 as Khouiss is up to over 28,000.
Alexander Kostritsyn and Jeff Madsen went to war on a flop. A series of raises ensued and the hit the turn. Madsen checked to Kostritsyn on the button, who fired out a bet. Madsen check-raised and Kostritsyn called.
The river was the and Madsen led out with a bet and was looked up by Kostritsyn. Madsen tabled for the best hand to collect the pot.
Madsen moves up to 23,300 with Kostritsyn looking ready for the next flight home as he slips to under 10,000 chips.
Jeff Madsen and Tony Bloom have recently tangled in a huge pot in a round of Hold'em. Madsen had raised preflop with calls out of the blinds from Bloom and Dan Shak.
The flop landed and play checked to Madsen, who fired a continuation bet. Bloom then check-raised and Shak stepped aside. Madsen made the call.
The turn was the and Bloom led out before Madsen raised. Bloom made the call.
The river brought the and the action became crazy! It was capped in a raising war as both players appeared to be confident they were in front. Bloom tabled for a rivered full house, eights full of sevens, however Madsen took down the pot with for nines full of sevens.
Madsen is up to 27,650 with Bloom back down to 14,300.
Chris Ferguson has scooped a nice pot at the expense of Lee Nelson. The game was Stud H/L and Nelson led the betting all the way before check-calling on the river. At showdown, their boards were as follows:
Nelson: ()
Ferguson: ()
Nelson made an eight-low to go with his pocket fours for the high, however Ferguson tabled a seven-low and a pair of aces to scoop. Ferguson is now up to 35,000 chips.
