Chris "Jesus" Ferguson leads
Chris "Jesus" Ferguson leads
A H.O.R.S.E. event with a buy-in of AU$10,200 was always going to attract the best of the best. Today we saw 25 of the world's elite players come together for Event #16 of the 2009 Aussie Millions Championships.

Bloom, Demidov, Benson, Guoga and Judah were early casualties but life is always difficult when you're up against the Son of God. Chris "Jesus" Ferguson emerged from the field with around two tables to go and continued to surge once we reached the final table, to carry a chip lead into tomorrow's final day of play.

However he won't have it easy against one of the toughest final table lineups ever seen. Hachem, Binger, Madsen, Fellows, Kostritsyn, Nelson and Lechich will all join Ferguson at 2 p.m. tomorrow to duke it out for the Aussie Millions Gold Ring and AU$95,000 first place prize.

Grab your spot on the rail early folks, this one is going to be a classic!

Overnight chip counts:

Chris Ferguson - 110,000
Joe Hachem - 84,800
Tino Lechich - 77,600
Zach Fellows - 66,300
Lee Nelson - 57,500
Jeff Madsen - 51,500
Alexander Kostritsyn - 42,200
Michael Binger - 23,700

We're Calling it Quits

Since the play has been so slow, the players are so deep and everyone is very tired after a long Aussie Millions campaign, the tournament director has stepped in and ruled that we will now call it a night at the end of this level.

This seemed like a smart decision and all players concurred. "We're a long way away from reaching five players!" commented Lee Nelson.

It was agreed that play will wrap up in twenty minutes time, with the final table to resume at 2 p.m. tomorrow.

Action Slow, Ferguson Extends Lead

The play has been slow and steady in the early stages of this final table. The Omaha H/L round was rather uneventful with a few nice hands shown down but resulting in split pots.

The round finished with one nice pot to Chris Ferguson. On a board of {2-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} he checked to Michael Binger who bet out for 3,000 and Ferguson called. Binger tabled a range of paint but couldn't better the pocket deuces of Ferguson for a set as he extends his chip lead.

Tonight's Plan

After a quick discussion it has been decided to continue play this evening. We're going to play until we reach the final five players or continue play for another two hours - whichever comes first.

The clock has been wound back one level for the commencement of this final table. The cards are back in the air!

Our Final Table Lineup

What a star-studded lineup for the final table of Event #16 of the 2009 Aussie Millions. Here's how they shape up:

Seat 1: Joe Hachem - 74,000
Seat 2: Michael Binger - 53,000
Seat 3: Jeff Madsen - 60,700

Two World Champions, two Aussie Millions Champions, multiple WSOP bracelets and two Australian Poker Hall of Fame members. Is this the greatest ever final table seen at the Aussie Millions?

Gray Bubbles Final Table

Jason Gray Eliminated

Razz:

A short-stacked Jason Gray was all in on third street against Chris Ferguson. The boards fell:

Gray: ({4-?}{2-?}) {9-?}{8-?}{K-?}{9-?} ({4-?})
Ferguson: ({3-?}{6-?}) {8-?}{10-?}{2-?}{9-?} ({J-?})

Gray double paired to end up with a king-low which Ferguson was able to better with a nine-low. Gray is out in 9th and our final table is set!

Rybachenko Out, Nine Remain

Sergey Rybachenko Eliminated
Sergey Rybachenko Eliminated
Stud:

Sergey Rybachenko is next to depart after he called bets from Tino Lechich before being all in by sixth street. The boards were:

Rybachenko: ({3-Spades}{3-Clubs}) {K-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Hearts} ({5-Clubs})
Lechich: ({J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}) {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts} ({5-Diamonds})

The giant-killing run of Lechich continues to end Rybachenko's run in 10th place. With that elimination we are now on the bubble of the final table, however only the top five players will be paid.

Bach Out

Stud:

David Bach has been eliminated during a recent Stud hand against Lee Nelson. Bach's last chips were in the pot by fourth street with the boards running out as follows:

Bach: ({8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}) {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} ({10-Clubs})
Nelson: ({10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}) {K-Diamonds}{A-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{A-Hearts} ({9-Hearts})

Bach couldn't improve on his pair of eights as Nelson made three pair, the best two of which were aces over kings. Nelson is up to 30,000 with Bach left to quietly exit the Crown Poker Room.

Kostritsyn Fan Club Arrives

The Alexander Kostritsyn Fan Club appear to have arrived in Melbourne. Playing on the feature table, every time Kostritsyn takes down a pot, the two railbirds give him a nice little round of applause and congratulate him in some broken English.

It's a little too early for congratulations but Kostritsyn has made a nice comeback in this tournament after being down as the short stack in the early goings.
